Arsenal are set to beat Chelsea to the signing of Germany midfielder Sami Khedira from Real Madrid with Spanish newspapers reporting that a £23million deal has already been agreed.

According to Sport, Khedira will sign a four-year deal at the Emirates Stadium despite the emergence of Chelsea's interest.

Contract talks between the 27-year-old's representatives and Real Madrid broke down and they are now set to sell rather than let him go for free next summer.

Arsenal have already splashed £30m to bring Chile forward Alexis Sanchez to north London from Barcelona, and are on the verge of signing France's World Cup right back Mathieu Debuchy from Newcastle.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, who worked with Khedira during his time as Real manager, is keen on the defensive midfielder but looks set to miss out.

Khedira missed the World Cup final on Sunday night after he injured himself in the warm-up.

However, he was part of the celebrations afterwards as Germany beat Argentina 1-0 at the Maracana.

Goons have become a seedy little American club buying anything with two legs. Classless.

You couldn't make it up, when Gooners thought Chelsea were stepping in to nick the player they spouted about how overated and useless he was.Suddenly with the move swinging back Arsenal's wayn he becomes a world beater once more.

Hope Chelsea don't get him, I'm sure if Jose wanted him he'd have sorted it by now

I'm buzzing about this as well as sanchez. I'm a huge arsenal fan considering i'm a girl! I hate to sound like a 'typical arsenal fan' but this could be our season! Haha, who am i kidding! :D Up the gunners!

Where Arsenal didn't need Sanchez at all as they have good players in that position already, this is the signing that will propel them towards the top3, if he stays fit all season, he could turn out to be as important to them as Makalaly was to Chelsea and Madrid

Khedira looked lonely in Madrid after Özil left. Those two were inseparable. Without Özil around Khedira interacted less with other Real team mates during practice and travel. And he's just spent weeks with Özil, Podolski and Mertesacker (they were all housemates at the German base camp), who'd be more than welcoming for him to return to London with them. And, for all of Arsenal's midfield prowess, Khedira is something they don't have but really need: a solid defensive midfielder. If he's coming to the PL then I'd be really surprised if he doesn't choose Arsenal. He was one of the few Real players who parted with Mourinho on good terms, but even then I don't think that would be enough for Mou to successfully lure him to Chelsea. Really curious to see how this turns out!

Nothing wrong , Arsene, with a world class midfield . Just wish you'd get a world class striker as well .

The choice is simple, move to Arsenal and play a lot of games, or move to Chelsea and sit on the bench for the majority of the season or be loaned out to the likes of Everton. Arteta has been a decent player but his pace is going and the errors he made last season were noticeable.
