Hubby, you're hired! Gwen Stefani reveals Gavin Rossdale will join her team on The Voice

By Eleanor Gower

Although they have been married for 12 years, they rarely discuss their personal relationship.

But fans of Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale will get a rare glimpse at the couple together when the Bush frontman joins The Voice as his wife's advisor during the mentor stages.

'It's official! so excited to have @GavinRossdale on #TeamGwen,' the singer wrote on her Twitter page on Monday, alongside a snapshot of the two being interviewed on camera.

And The Voice's official page posted a snapshot of the couple welcoming Gavin to the hit NBC show. '#TeamGwen makes it a family affair. RETWEET to welcome @gavinrossdale to #TheVoice fam!' they wrote.

Gavin will come on board during the mentoring stage of the show, and follows in the footsteps of Miranda Lambert, who acted as advisor to her husband Blake Sheldon in the second season.

'He is super articulate and he has a really good opinion and he is smart and he's been doing a really good job,' Gwen told Access Hollywood of her husband's performance so far.

'We both have, I think, a lot of experience in the sense that when you look back at all the shows and all the things we've done – and I mean, we all met like touring together and doing hundreds of shows – and it's so fun to be in the position to meet [all of the contestants].

As far as Gavin is concerned, his main job is to support his wife.

'The main thing, from my perspective, is just to make sure that Gwen is so good and excellent like all the other judges on the show,' he said. 'It's just sort of to not interrupt and to normally let her speak, let her do her thing and I'm just like a side thing.'

The 48-year-old-musician isn't really sure how he was first linked to the job.

'I don't know how it came about, but it was just one of those things [where] the idea was mentioned – I wasn't even sure who was mentioning it,' he recalled. 'And then it came around to, "So, next week you ready? You are gonna come and do this?"

Gwen will appear as a coach on the seventh season, joining Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, replacing the departing Shakira and Usher.

She also said she was enjoying getting to know arch rivals Levine and Shelton.

'It’s just been hilarious. I get the R rated version of what you guys get on TV which is like so funny. It's really good, it's really, really good.'

'Adam is like an eight year old boy who has never learned sportsmanship…which I love because it reminds me of home. I think that he is like so serious about this game that we are playing. I mean he seriously gets upset. It’s crazy.'

Away from her new TV sideline, the mother-of-three - who welcomed her third son Apollo back in February -  is reportedly working with Pharrell on her first solo material since 2006 album The Sweet Escape.

Gavin, meanwhile, will release the follow up to 2011 Bush album Sea Of Memoires with an as-yet-untitled record set for an October release.
