He must be a fan! Serbian border official keeps Hugh Laurie waiting an hour while he photocopies his passport as a SOUVENIR

By Travelmail Reporter

Hugh Laurie almost lost his passport while trying to cross into Serbia - after an official kept hold of the document so he could photocopy it as a souvenir.

The 54-year-old actor, who won two Golden Globes for his role as Dr Gregory House on the American medical drama House, tweeted about the humorous incident as he toured with his blues group Copper Bottom Band.

The actor-turned singer wrote: 'Crossed into Serbia but had to turn back an hour later. Border guard had kept my passport to make a photocopy as a souvenir. Smashing!!'

The star was reportedly allowed into the country but was told he would have to wait to collect his passport an hour later.

It was only when he did so that he realised the border official was clearly a fan and had taken a copy for himself.

After tweeting about the humorous incident, Laurie was bombarded with responses and his tweet was 'favourited' more than 2,000 times.

Among his many fan responses was a comment from @Brittellyaddict, which read: 'That's what you get for being so bloody talented.'

User @BabalooBlue added: 'Did he ask for an autograph as validation, too?'

And a rather worried @picard25 commented: 'Soon there will be hundreds of Serbian Hugh Lauries. Can the world survive?'

Laurie is best known for his acting skills that started as one half of the Fry and Laurie double act and then moved onto his roles in Blackadder, Jeeves and Wooster and then the protagonist of the TV show House, for which he received two Golden Globe awards, two Screen Actors Guild awards and six Emmy nominations.

Although he was listed in the 2011 Guinness World Records as the most watched leading man on television and was one of the highest-paid actors in a television drama, earning £250,000 per episode in House, he has often said that music is an equal passion and he is currently on a world tour with his band in between acting jobs.

I have always been a big Hugh Laurie fan ever since I first turned on the Jeeves series...I also liked the actor who played with him then...forgot his name; but equally talented actor. He is a good actor because you can always tell that he is 'thinking' when he acts...not just saying words....And, I am most impressed with the way 'medical terminology' seems to 'roll off his tongue'...whereas, I would get tongue tied....I am sure...He is so intelligent, it makes him very sexy~

I have always been a huge Hugh Laurie fan since I first laid eyes on his superb acting on Jeeves series...many years ago...He didn't find his 'fit' there; but it did 'captapult' him into the USA in a big way, and we are better for it; in terms of superb acting~He seems like a really 'down to earth kind of guy'...I like that. Not many actors are as 'grounded' as he is...Very intelligent too, I believe.

I made a facebook profile of gregory house so I could marry him. No wonder I'm single if I'm attracted to egotistical narcassitic sociopathic junkies!

Isn't that illegal? I thought your passport should not be photocopied. Very odd - a photograph with Hugh should have sufficed.

Got delayed for about 40mins crossing into Bosnia from Croatia because my wife had born in West Ham on the details page of the passport. He was a misguided WHFC fan and went round the whole boarder crossing showing that page of the passport to everyone.
