He's just been given three weeks off by his Manchester United manager after starring for Holland in the World Cup in Brazil.

And what better way for Dutch footballer Robin Van Persie to kick off his belated summer holidays than to soak up the sun in Barbados with his five-year-old daughter Dina Layla.

The 30-year-old footballer stripped down to a pair of light blue football shorts – the colour of his team's rivals Manchester City – as he chilled out on the beach.

Robin showed off an ever-greying head of hair as he took some time out from the pressures of the beautiful game.

While Robin looked to be enjoying his break from football, he has clearly not grown tired of outdoor activities as he took his daughter kayaking.

He looked every inch the doting father as he put his hand out to help the youngster through the water.

The star striker revealed after the World Cup campaign, in which he scored four goals and helped his country to a third-place finish, that he was in need of a break before returning to pre-season training with Manchester United.

Fortunately for the forward, the footballer's Holland manager, Louis Van Gaal, is also his new Manchester United boss so he was only too happy to oblige after Robin played 548 minutes in the tournament.

Speaking about being given an extended break, he said: 'I need that. It was a tough tournament.

'Every match I gave it my all. That was just it, more wasn't possible.'

Robin found the net four times during the prestigious tournament including twice in the country's 5-1 thrashing of Spain and once in their 3-0 demolition of Brazil.
