Charlotte Church's claim that she will have to 'work for the rest of her life' called into question as it emerges she's sitting on a £3.7m fortune
Charlotte Church's claim that she will have to work for the rest of her life has been called into question after it emerged she is sitting on a £3.7million fortune.
The former child star told the BBC that her millions have dried up, bringing an end to any hopes of early retirement.
But the latest accounts filed by her company, Charlotte Church Ltd, reveal funds of £3.65million.
Even if the 28-year-old singer lived until she was 100, it would give her £50,730 a year to spend - nearly double the average UK salary.
Not exactly hard up! Charlotte Church's claim that she will have to work for the rest of her life has been called into question after it emerged she is sitting on a £3.7million fortune
The paperwork lodged with Companies House details £2.4million of fixed investments and £775,000 of stocks. The firm is also owed £240,799 and has nearly £35,000 of cash sat in bank, the accounts show.
The Welsh songbird, who has sold more than 10 million records and was reputed to be worth £25m when she was just 17, made her comments during BBC One Wales documentary, Charlotte Church: In Her Own Voice
Confessing she is now not as rich as everyone thinks she is, the former wild child admitted she needs to continue working to keep her lifestyle.
Voice of an Angel: Ex-child star Charlotte Church recently admitted her millions have dried up - and that she'll have to work for the rest of her adult life
Charlotte said: 'I will have to work for the rest of my life. Not because I want to but because I have to. I always understood that all that stuff isn't important and my career was not the be and end all.'
The singer was reputed to be worth a massive £25 million at the height of her fame in 2003. But by 2010, the singer - who is divorced from rugby star Gavin Henson - was down to £11 million.
And last year she had just £8 million, according to the Sunday Times Rich List.
But Charlotte admitted her real worth is far less than that after a big slump in her fame.

Working hard: The former wild child (pictured in 2006), who has sold more than ten million records throughout her career, admitted she needs to continue working to keep her lifestyle
She joked: 'The tax man is looking at my accounts wondering where I'm hiding all my money.'
Charlotte turned from classical music to pop to strike a top three hit with Crazy Chick, but she has since given up both genres.
She has now set up her own record label called Alligator Wine, and released a series of 'experimental' EPs with limited sales.
The star has also tried her hand at TV presenting, with the Charlotte Church Show running for three series on Channel 4 between 2006 and 2008. She has also released two autobiographies.
Charlotte added: 'My life is so full and so rich I definitely feel like I've had the good side of the deal.'
The mother-of-two bought a luxury house in Cardiff where she lived with Henson before the couple split up.
She now has a 1930s villa in the Vale of Glamorgan where she lives with Ruby, six, and Dexter, five.
Charlotte and new partner Jonathan Powell have built a home studio in her back garden, where she has produced her new records.

Talented: Charlotte has now set up her own record label called Alligator Wine, and released a series of 'experimental' EPs with limited sales
The former child star, who is planning on taking a physics degree, also claims to have given thousands of pounds to charity.
This is not the first time Charlotte has spoken out about her finances, claiming earlier this year that she 'doesn't have a lot of money'.
She told Stylist magazine in February: 'I haven’t got a lot of money. I’ve got enough to be comfortable if I was reasonable for the rest of my life, but I’m not reasonable, so I will have to find a way to sustain my lifestyle.
'It only recently dawned on me that I don’t have to be a singer. What a novel idea! I guess I’m lucky to have a bit of wealth behind me that I can go to university.
'I never want to stop educating myself. And I want my kids to see my career and see that it’s possible to dart from one end of the spectrum to another. I feel like I know my own power and strengths now – if I set my mind to something, I absolutely will achieve that.'
Charlotte Church: In Her Own Voice airs on BBC One Wales on July 12.
