A third of Brits sneak teabags into their holiday luggage ... but sleeping in our own bed is what we miss the most while away
- Survey quizzed holidaymakers on the things they miss most while away
- Pets, family and friends - and smartphones all feature on the top 10
- One in 10 women can't go on holiday without their favourite chocolate bar
Women miss an English cup of tea, men miss their electronic gadgets but sleeping in our own bed tops the things we miss from home when we go on holiday, according to a new report.
Second on the list is pets, followed by family and friends - with speedy internet connection featuring as the fourth most missed benefit of being at home by the men surveyed.
But women were more concerned with having a nice cuppa ranking this as the fourth most missed home comfort when they were on holiday.
A good ole cuppa: Third of Brits take teabags on holiday - with it being the sixth most missed thing while away
WHAT BRITS MISS THE MOST
1. My own bed
2. Pets
3. Family/Friends
4. Regular speedy internet connectivity
5. TV soaps/programmes
6. Decent cup of tea
7. Getting water from the tap
8. Home cooked meal
9. Using British Pounds
10. Communicating in my own language
When asked to reveal the top five items that they can't travel without, women felt sun cream and a good book were more essential than local currency.
The 25-34-year-old holidaymakers view their smartphone, sun protection and charger as the top three items to travel with, whereas the 45-54 age group included painkillers in their top five along with a smartphone - but no charger.
While the trusty English tea bag is the number one choice when it comes to holiday essentials, with a third packing them in their suitcase, 16 per cent of men can't be without their biscuits to dunk in the tea and one in 10 women can't travel without their favourite chocolate bar.
Younger holidaymakers (18-24) throw in a packet of instant noodles in the suitcase to be on the safe side whereas 25-34-year-olds prefer to take their own coffee abroad.
Home comforts: One in 10 women pack their favourite chocolate bar when heading on holiday
Tom Johnson, Head of Online Business at International Currency Exchange, which carried out the survey, said: 'While over a third of us always take teabags on holiday, we all miss a nice home-brewed cuppa.
'However it's quite amazing that sun cream and a good book feature above local currency in terms of must-have items on holiday.
'Travellers are almost always going to get a better rate buying online before they leave home and it's good to have some emergency cash for when you arrive for taxis and tips.
'With the current strength of the pound against the euro and non-euro destinations in Europe as well as the US, it makes sense to make the most of the holiday budget and buy your currency before you fly.'
