After calling an end to her marriage to Antonio Banderas, she seems intent on removing a particular physical reminder of the Spanish actor from her life.

The actress was seen leaving a courthouse in Beverly Hills, California, with her infamous tattoo dedicated to her now-estranged husband concealed until a white bandage on Monday.

But Melanie, who is reportedly in the process of having her tattoo removed, was able to pull attention away from her undercover efforts with her choice of attire.

She teamed the dress with flat red leather shoes, with a matching handbag.

As the actress walked along the upscale neighbourhood's tree-lined streets, en route to a local Rite Aid pharmacy store with her 17-year-old daughter Stella, she puffed on a cigarette.

With her hair set in a relaxed bun, the Working Girl star protected her eyes from the glaring sun with a pair of mirrored sunglasses.

Later in the day, Melanie proved she was focussing on herself, when she decided to decorate the bandage covering her tattoo.

The Working Girl star had ‘Mel’ scrawled on the bandage, as well as some lines to join up the heart on the fading ink.

The 56-year-old was showing off her feelings of self-love while out in Larchmont Village, where she was seen puffing on another cigarette.

Fading away: The actress is in the process of getting the inking removed

Melanie was taking some style tips from the Nineties, in dark denim overalls and a white crop top underneath.

The actress was also sporting black and white camouflage canvas shoes and mirrored cat-eye sunglasses.

Melanie and Antonio announced they were separating amicably, but the actress has since filed papers at Los Angeles Superior Court stating that she is seeking spousal support and custody of their daughter Stella and their three dogs.

The couple were married for 18 years and said in a statement to announce their split: 'We have thoughtfully and consensually decided to finalize our almost twenty years marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together - Melanie & Antonio.'

Melanie and Antonio, 56, may be embroiled in divorce but they will soon have to promote their movie Automata together, which they both star in and Antonio produced.

In the futuristic science fiction film, Banderas plays an insurance agent who investigates robots who live among us, discovering something that will alter the course of humanity.

The film is set to debut at Spain's San Sebastian Film Festival in September, but has yet to get a US release date.

As well as daughter Stella with Antonio, Melanie is mother to 24-year-old actress Dakota with her first husband Don Johnson and son Alexander, 28, with her second husband, Steven Bauer.
