Senseless and sensibility! Snooki and JWoww push their boundaries by dressing up as Victorian ladies in New Jersey

They are hardly noted for being the sharpest knives in the drawer.

So no doubt some will accuse Snooki and JWoww of being a couple of Jane Eyre-heads after they dressed up as Victorian ladies in New Jersey on Monday.

And it seems their more genteel new look was not the most spontaneous of ideas, as they were being followed around by their ever-present reality television cameras during their outing.

It momentarily seemed like the Bronte sisters had come back to life as the fragrant ladies daintily padded down the street.

But upon closer inspection it soon became clear it was in fact the pair who shot to fame due to their hard-partying antics on MTV hit Jersey Shore.

Seven months pregnant Snooki, real name is Nicole Polizzi, was trying manfully to look elegant in her heavy white dress, with gloves and a pink sun parasol adding an extra touch of class.

Sadly the 26-year-old's ladylike facade was ruined somewhat by her decision to wear a pair of comically oversized sunglasses, which sadly were not appropriate for this particularly stylistic mode.

Her 28-year-old sidekick, real name Jennifer Farley, managed to pull off her look quite a bit better, and she seemed to be having a ball in her period dress.

Since Jersey Shore came to an end the pair have been fighting to retain their relevance in the hotly contested reality television market with their programme Snooki & JWoww, which is also shown on MTV.

The former seems to be quite the history buff, as on Sunday she was guest of honour at a Great Gatsby themed bridal shower.

Snooki. who is marrying fiance Jionni LaValle this Autumn, held the shindig in her hometown of Poughkeepsie, New York and invited 100 guests, including former Jersey Shore co-stars Sammi Giancola and Deena Cortese.
