'I was wondering why it looked strange!' Gayle King has a laugh after learning she wore her dress backwards on morning show

By Jennifer Pearson

Perhaps the lighting in her dressing room was poor or she was still half-asleep.

Gayle King had one of those days that can happen to anybody in her profession with an early start when she accidentally wore her dress in reverse on Tuesday's CBS This Morning.

The 59-year-old co-host later realised her slip and had a good laugh about it on Twitter by posting a two-way photo of the front and back of the bright pink garment.

'In a meeting @Oprahmagazine just discovered I've been wearing my dress BACKWARDS all day @therealadamsays,' Gayle wrote good-humouredly, adding: 'I was wondering why it looked strange @cbsthismorning today!'

She has said she wakes up at 3:30am each day in her current job.

Oprah Winfrey's best friend, who is also editor-at-large at O, The Oprah Magazine, was having a nice on-camera chat with Orange Is The New Black's Laverne Cox about her Emmy nomination.

Unbeknownst to Gayle, the designer tag was showing just inches below her chin as she leveled some questions at Laverne, 'the first ever openly transgender woman ever nominated for an Emmy.'

'When did you realise...' The co-host was interviewing Orange Is The New Black's Laverne Cox about her real-life transgender status without knowing that her dress label was showing

Correction: Laverne politely corrected Gayle's trans description but no one happened to mention the co-host's pretty frock was on backwards

'When did you realise your gender didn't fit your identity?' Gayle wanted to know, not yet aware that the designer tag of her otherwise lovely fuchsia frock was peeking over the collar.

'Everybody sort of knew before I knew,' Laverne recalled of her grammar school years, although that statement could also be compared to Gayle's predicament.

Gayle earned a lot of support from her understanding followers with one magazine associate writing, 'that's actually a good story idea women do it all the time with clothes, shoes, accessories etc.'

Another chimed in, 'No worries! I'm sure you've started a new trend' while a third commented, 'to home she goes!'

Back to the program, Laverne later added: 'I've gotten hundreds of those kind of messages from parents who said that they're understanding their trans-children better.'

'I was assigned male at birth is the way I like to put it. We're born who were are. The gender thing is something someone imposes on you and so I was assigned male at birth but I always felt I was a girl.'

Meanwhile, Laverne, who wore a skintight purple dress and animal print pumps, was beyond excited to receive an Emmy nod for her role as Sophia in the Netflix hit series.

'To be nominated is a dream come true,' Laverne told Gayle.
