His son Jack was born nine weeks prematurely back in 2012, spending a month in an intensive care unit.

And Chris Pratt has recalled how he drew strength from his loved ones through the experience.

'It brought me closer to my family and it restored my faith in God, not that it needed to be restored, but it really redefined it,' the 35-year-old actor told People, of his son with wife Anna Faris.

'It showed me who in my life is really close to me.'

Now 23-months-old, Jack in a happy and healthy little boy, who Chris says has changed the couple's priorities.

'[At first] our number one priority was attempting to conquer this town as actors and we supported each other in our quests,' he admitted. 'Now with a kid, our priority list has shifted, and he's at the top of it.'

He added: 'He's so open and there's no fear in him no matter what. He is so charming that my plan is to just let him take care of us as soon as he is old enough.'

Chris has seen his career go from strength to strength in recent years - capturing comedy fans as the loveable Andy Dwyer in NBC sitcom Parks & Recreation to a Navy SEAL in Oscar nominated Zero Dark Thirty.

Now he is starring in the lead role of Peter Quill or Star-Lord in Marvel blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy.

The half alien, half human leads a gang consisting of what Quill dubs 'a thief, two thugs, an assassin and a maniac.'

The gang consists of Rocket Racoon (voiced by Bradley Cooper) is a genetically engineered bounty hunter and mercenary while Drax the Destroyer (Dave Bautista) is a powerful warrior, while Groot (voiced by Vin Diesel) is a tree-like humanoid and Rocket's accomplice.

'There are so many things about the character that I love, and one thing is that he's very much a kid at heart,' Chris told ComingSoon.net about the role.

'He's like a man-child. And I like the idea that he's got a false sense of bravado. Deep down inside he's lonely and desperate.

'But on the outside he walks around like he's big and tough, and I don't think he does a great job of convincing everybody that he's not just a scared little child.'

The Guardians Of The Galaxy is released in U.S. cinemas on August 1.
