At present (9 July 2014), 53 Palestinians have been killed, and more than 500 injured since the Israeli military assault of the Gaza Strip began Tuesday, July 8th. Many of those dead from the most recent assaults are women and children; the youngest victim was 18-month-old Mohammed Melkiye who was killed by an Israeli airstrike along with his 27-year-old mother.

As Israel launches yet another brutal and deadly attack on the people of Gaza, the Institute for Palestine Studies remains committed to accurately documenting and recording Palestinian history, even as it happens.

This July, the IPS Special Focus includes free articles from the Journal of Palestine Studies, detailing past major Israeli military assaults on the people of Gaza, as well as up-to-date reports, articles and stories on the ongoing present attack on Gaza.

Journal of Palestine Studies
is providing articles and documents featuring analysis and details on Israeli and Palestinian weaponry, the continued siege of Gaza imposed by Israel after the 2005 disengagement, and reports on the broader implication of the continued massive destruction and suffering wreaked upon the Gaza Strip.

These articles include: Israeli Military Operations Against Gaza, 2000-2008, Reflections on the War on Gaza, Made in the USA: American Military Aid to Israel and more.

This current brutal military attack on Gaza is being referred to as Operation Protective Edge by Israel. In December 2008, Israel conducted Operation Cast Lead, a 22-day assault that resulted in more than 1,400 Palestinian deaths and more than 4,300 injuries in Gaza. In November 2012, Israel carried out Operation Pillar of Defense, killing over 177 Palestinians in Gaza in eight days, mostly civilians. Residents of the Gaza Strip, then as now, are unable to evacuate or escape Israeli airstrikes because of the restrictions on movement enforced by both Israel and Egypt.
