Grammy Award winning singer Lorde was at her body shaking best when she hit the stage at Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival on Friday.

The 17-year-old New Zealand native wore her trademark basic black, donning an overall style jump suit with gothic deep purple lipstick.

Taken aback by her performing at the iconic show, Lorde told the crowd 'this is more people than in my whole town, my whole high school and everyone at the airport in New Zealand...it's really f****** cool!'

'I’m so lost for words… and that doesn’t happen very often,' the famously down-to-earth singer told the audience.

Auburn hair fashioned into her trademark mane, Lorde had a big smile on her face and was put over the moon by the packed in crowd.

The Auckland-born songstress took to the Bud Light stage at Grant Park in Chicago and belted out her hits Tennis Court and Royals but it was her set closer Team that really got the crowd going.

The teenage performer kept her accessories minimal with a silver choker and just a few bracelets and bangles mixed together on her right hand.

As she sang 'I’m kind of over getting told to throw my hands up in the air,' the thousands in the crowd raised their hands and the roof during each chorus.

The energetic performer's set was labelled by the media as one of the stand outs on day one of the three day festival.

Lorde became an international sensation thanks to her smash hit Royals. Her debut albuim, Pure Heroine, has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide.
