Dr. Kent Brantly landed in Marietta, Georgia, just outside Atlanta, on Saturday morning after being evacuated from West Africa, where he contracted the Ebola virus while working at a clinic in Liberia. News helicopter footage appears to show Brantly - whose condition is listed as stable - walking into a containment facility at Emory University Hospital, where he will receive treatment. A second patient, aid worker Nancy Writebol, is expected to arrive at the same facility on Monday. Ebola is a severe acute viral illness with a fatality rate of up to 90 percent that is transmitted through close contact with the blood, secretions, organs or other bodily fluids of those who are infected.

NEW The family of California couple Don and Maxine Simpson said they knew the two would have wanted to be together at the end, and so moved them from hospital to a relative's home in beds side-by-side. Together over six decades, the pair had both deteriorated over the last two weeks, after Don fell and broke his hop and Maxine's cancer progressed. Maxine died first, holding her husband's hand, and as her body was being wheeled out the room, Don took his last breath. The pair had met at Bakersfield bowling alley around 1950.

Scott Shipley, 57, of Acton, California, (pictured inset) was given a 40 year prison sentence Friday after being found guilty of the brutal second-degree murder of family man Christopher Demyen (pictured with his wife Amber). The court heard how Demyen's devastated pregnant widow went on to lose their baby three months after the crime.
