She's made countless 'most beautiful' lists and craved out a successful music and TV career in her own right.

So when X-Factor mentor Natalie Bassingthwaite brought along Jennifer Lopez to meet her six finalists in New York, the boys thought they'd hit the jackpot.

The boys waited with bated breath for the identity of their mystery guest, while Nat rattled of some startling career statistics.

The day before Lopez made her shock appearance, the contestants gave Nat a taste of what she and the Latino performer could expect in their final song before just three would go through to the live shows.

While they all took the former Rogue Trader's advice seriously, 22-year-old Dean Ray took a more abrupt approach to the constructive criticism.

Describing himself as just 'a guy with a guitar,' that tends 'to live the rock star lifestyle in my everyday life without the fame,' it was clear that he already though of himself as a seasoned pro.

Singing his own soulful rendition of ABBA's Dancing Queen - much to the shock of Nat - it didn't take much for the leather-clad crooner to switch into rock star mode.

Loving his alternative version of a disco classic, Nat praised his creativity but questioned him about his sometimes 'arrogant' persona.

Saying he needed to tone down the intensity in his eyes because it might polarise and turn off viewers, Dean hit back in his piece to camera.

'The only way to change how intense I am is to change my eyes and swap them for other ones.'
