Nicole Richie was simply helping out a friend on Friday evening when she hosted a book signing for interior designer Ryan Korban.

But the former Simple Life star also happened to steal part of the limelight when she arrived to the event looking gorgeous in a plunging black shirt dress.

The 32-year-old designer and TV personality hosted the party honouring Korban's book Luxury Redefined, along with flower designer Eric Buterbaugh and Curve boutique owner Nevena Borissova.

Lionel Richie's daughter, rocking the short Anthony Vaccarello dress, stood much taller than her petite 5'1" frame in a pair of beige leather double strap heels by Gianvito Rossi.

Nicole then further accessorized with large thin gold hoops and diamond stud earrings.

She styled her purple-tinted brunette locks into a slicked back bun, letting her glowing complexion and bright hazel eyes take center stage.

The beauty in black, a mother of two - daughter Harlow, six, and son Sparrow, five - beamed throughout the evening as she played catch up with her industry pals.

Attendees ranged from actresses Amber Valletta and Liat Baruch to models like former Victoria's Secret Angel Shannan Click.

According to Harper Collins the evening's honoree 'has redefined luxury for a new generation with an interior design approach that infuses a timeless sensibility with a sense of lost romance, sex, and fantasy.

The book, which was released on April 15, is 'filled with more than one hundred full-color photographs, the acclaimed interior designer shows readers how to achieve a sense of easy luxury that is both glamorous and personal.'

Outside of hosting Korban's book signing, Nicole has been busy heading up VH1's Candidly Nicole, a cable spin-off of her AOL webseries.

The reality-based series captures the mother-of-two's typically outrageous antics as she works on her fashion label and attends glamorous parties.

The first episode premiered July 17, with a total of eight half-hour episodes airing on Thursday nights at 10pm.

Nicole and husband of four years rocker Joel Madden have recently been making their relationship go the distance as Joel fulfills his television commitments on The Voice Australia.
