Holy urban destruction! Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice's Detroit set shows Metropolis as scene of carnage

By Mike Larkin

Man Of Steel was notable for the amount of urban destruction doled out to Metropolis.

And it seems like lightning will be striking twice if shots from the Detroit set of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice are any guide.

Twisted and broken buildings, as well as a smashed up Metropolis Police Department car, were shown in footage taken of the scene by local news channel WXYZ.

And in what could be the catalyst for Batman getting involved in the movie, which is to be released in 2016, his alter ego's Wayne Financial business building is also destroyed.

It appears Henry Cavill's markedly darker take on the DC Comics character will have his hands full once again in the new film, which is purported to pave the way for a Justice League movie, which Warner no doubt hope will be as successful as Marvel's Avengers franchise.

Shooting is scheduled to continue in Detroit is through to the end of summer.

It will then be moved to Chicago in October, an intriguing decision as it doubled for the Dark Knight’s hometown of Gotham City for Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy.

This suggests it will be reprising its role and that the new film will feature scenes in both Superman and Batman's home cities.

Christopher, who mentored director Zack Snyder by executive producing the previous movie in the series, is reprising this role.

However the Batman in this film is very different to Christian Bale's, with ageing heartthrob Ben Affleck playing an older version of the character.

Intriguingly, in what could prove to be a monumental casting blunder, Jesse Eisenberg has been cast as the Man Of Steel's arch enemy Lex Luthor.

Snyder said he is a 'complicated and sophisticated character whose intellect, wealth and prominence position him as one of the few mortals able to challenge the incredible might of Superman.'

'Having Jesse in the role allows us to explore that interesting dynamic, and also take the character in some new and unexpected directions.'

While the comic book character is much older than Superman, 30-year-old Jesse is one year younger than Henry Cavill.
