A tough-talking, no-nonsense FBI agent never looked so good.

Ali Larter was the perfect picture of summery sophistication in a rose-patterned two-piece as she stepped out to promote her new show Legends in New York City on Thursday.

The stunning actress wore a red-and-pink dress under a matching crop top, which she teamed with a pair of season-appropriate strappy white heels.

The blonde beauty wore her hair down as she breezed into the NBC Rockefeller Center Studios to make an appearance on the Today Show.

As well as promoting her recently released cookbook, Kitchen Revelry: A Year Of Festive Menus From My Home to Yours, Ali also spoke about how her FBI agent character's life on Legends is so different to her own.

The 38-year-old said: 'At home I'm with my three-year-old, Teddy, [and I'm] doing pre-school runs covered in flour.

'And then I get to go to work and play this woman who has chosen a different route. She doesn't have a family, she doesn't have personal relationships. She's gives her life to her job... So it's really fun to have that dichotomy.'

Ali has admitted that she and her husband, comedian Hayes MacArthur, briefly left the US for Europe in a bid to hide that she was pregnant with little Theodore, who was born in December 2010.

In July, the actress was joined by her Legends co-stars Tina Majorino and Morris Chestnut at Comic Con International in San Diego, California, as they promoted Legends.

The show, which begins its 10-episode run on August 13, stars Game Of Thrones alum Sean Bean as undercover FBI agent Martin Odum.

Odum has the uncanny ability to transform himself into a different 'legend' with his own way of living in order to solve a crime, even as Odum himself begins to question his sanity.

Ali plays his earthy sidekick Crystal McGuire who helps to steer Odum away from the brink.

The screen beauty previously starred in TV show Heroes about a group of people with special powers.

Despite her tough roles on TV and in horror movies, Ali admitted on the Today Show that she's a little timid in real-life situations.

She said: 'I am such a scaredy-cat. I can act tough, but I'm really not like that. I hate that feeling... I don't know why I keep going back to [horror movie roles].'
