Go long! Josh Duhamel has a ball with pal in between filming scenes as a clean-cut detective on Battle Creek

Josh Duhamel is often seen dressed casually and toting his nearly one-year-old son Axl around Hollywood with wife Fergie.

But on Tuesday, the actor looked suave while practising his football-throwing skills in between takes for his new television series Battle Creek.

The 41-year-old actor, wearing navy blue trousers, a white button-up T-shirt and blue tie, didn't exactly look appropriately dressed for the athletic activity on the Pasadena, California set.

Josh, who plays a detective on the CBS television show, had his hair perfectly styled and coiffed for his role in the police drama.

The new show, from the creators of Breaking Bad and House, follows two detectives - Special Agent Milton Chamberlain (Duhamel) and Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) in the town of Battle Creek, Michigan.

For research into the show's setting, Duhamel recently visited the real town of Battle Creek where he met with locals as well as the police department.

According to a sports writer that spoke to the actor while at a bar in July, '[Josh] kind of explained [the show] like, it was CSI with a little more humor to it,' Buckley said. 'And it's going to be a smart show, but he was definitely hoping it would get people to laugh, too.'

But on Tuesday, Josh appeared less concerned with filming and more interested in practising for his own game of catch with infant son, Axl.

When he's not spending time with son Axl and wife Fergie or filming for his new CBS program, Josh has multiple other acting projects in the works.

You're Not You, opposite Emmy Rossum, Ali Larter, Hilary Swank, and Marcia Gay Harden, will hit theaters in late 2014.

Josh has also wrapped up filming Lost In The Sun, in which he plays a crook who kidnaps a newly-orphaned boy in return for ransom from his grandparents.
