With a week of exciting shark programming airing on the Discovery Channel, Verne Troyer could hardly contain his excitement.

So much so, that the diminutive Austin Powers star dressed up in a giant shark costume complete with fins and a hood which featured pointy teeth.

The star posted the shot on his Twitter account alongside the caption: 'Got a little too excited about #sharkweek last night.'

The picture showed Verne holding on to his remote control with undisguised glee while perched in prime position on his couch.

On Sunday, Discovery Channel launched its highly anticipated annual Shark Week programming block which features factual shark-based shows for seven days.

It has included special editions of Mythbusters; real-life tales of those who have survived shark attacks and scientists trying to find the most bizarre, deadly and rare sharks of the world's oceans.

But Verne isn't the only celebrity getting excited about sharks.

On Monday, Patrick Schwarzenegger, 20, showed off his toned torso and rippling abs while riding an inflatable shark as he took a dip in a pool.

He shared the photo on Twitter on Monday and included the message: 'Thanks @Discovery for my @SharkWeek blow up shark. Gonna stay in the pool only this week though.'

Ashton Kutcher and Mario Lopez have also tweeted about Shark Week, both posting humorous photoshopped snaps of sharks on their Twitter pages.
