'No one knows how well I can clean': Julianne Moore opens up about her knack for tidiness and raising teenagers as she poses for showstopping new cover

Actress Julianne Moore looks more beautiful than ever in a new cover story for Beach magazine.

The 53-year-old mother of two stuns in the five-picture spread, wearing couture looks by Lanvin, Tom Ford, Veronique Leroy, and Marni.

Ms Moore has two children - Caleb, who's 16, and Liv, who's 12 - with her husband, director Bart Freundlich. She said her kids are 'great' so it's been 'easy' - but raising teenagers presents its own set of unique challenges.

'I think in adolescence, you have to be hyper-, hyper-aware of what’s going on,' she said. 'You have to be in their business without them knowing you’re in their business. You need to know who their friends are, what’s going on with parties and that kind of stuff. The process of parenting is about teaching someone gradual independence, and that’s hard to do.'

It's Ms Moore's children - and her own memory of being a child - that inspire her extensive work with Children's Health Fund, a New York-based non-profit that provides healthcare to children and families in need. The group has 50 mobile care units around the country.

Ms Moore has been working with the organization for five years, and recently spoke at a benefit for the group in the Hamptons.

'People pay a lot of lip service to how you get medical care to under-served populations in our country,' she remarked, 'but this is an actual solution that is super practical, very simple and unbelievably effective.'

The interview's funniest moment is when the author asks Ms Moore if there's anything no one knows about her.

'How well I can clean!' she claimed. 'Yesterday I vacuumed all of the spiders out of the furniture on my porch, which was not pleasant, but it had to be done.'

Ms Moore said she was cleaning her house in Montauk, in fact, when she recently got the call that she'd been named Best Actress at Cannes Film Festival for her work on Maps to the Stars. She calls the honor a 'complete and utter shock.'

'I was cleaning out my shed because you know how you have to sweep out all of the mouse droppings because of the hantaviruses? So, literally, I had my mask on; I was cleaning the shed, washing towels, doing all the things that I usually do at the beginning of Memorial Day weekend, and I get a phone call saying that I had won Cannes.'

She said she jumped up and down, and was happy to be with her family in her 'favorite place' when she got the news.
