Elle Fanning mixes summery crochet dress with chunky leather knee-high boots and woolly socks to grab a spot of lunch

She might be just 16 years of age, but Hollywood actress Elle Fanning has already made waves in the fashion world.

But when she stepped out for a spot of lunch at Aroma Cafe in Los Angeles on Sunday, it looked as thought she couldn't quite work out what season she was dressing for.

Despite opting for a white crochet summery dress, Elle topped off the look with a pair of wintry knee-high leather boots which she teamed with a burgundy pair of woolly socks.

Giving her look a superstar twist, the younger sister of actress Dakota, topped it off with a pair of designer shades and a brown and cream leather messenger bag.

With her blonde hair tied up in a neat ponytail, Elle went make-up free as she headed for a bit of lunch.

In July, Elle attended Comic-Con in San Diego, California, where she signed autographs at an event previewing her new animated project, The Boxtrolls.

The comedy – out September 26 – revolves around a family of quirky creatures and their son Eggs (Isaac Hempstead Wright) who live beneath the streets of Cheesebridge.

When the town villain, Archibald Snatcher (Ben Kingsley), devises a plan to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs ventures above ground and teams up with the feisty Winnie (Elle) to save his family.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will tell the tale of two teen boys who go to a party in 1970s London.

While one meets a girl straight away, the shy one is left by himself to figure out how to make conversation. He soon finds out that the girls at the party are more than they seem.

Elle will play a female alien tourist hunkering to escape her tour group and explore the galaxy’s most dangerous place – the London suburb of Croydon.
