As a supermodel, she hardly needs to do much to demand attention.

But Heidi Klum made for absolute certain that all eyes were on her by hitting the red carpet of the Creative Arts Emmy Awards in an eye-catching royal blue peacock inspired dress.

The 41-year-old America's Got Talent judge dazzled as she showed up to the Nokia Theatre in Los Angles on Saturday for the annual event.

Up and away: Heidi Klum wore a loud royal blue dress for her turn on the Creative Arts Emmy Awards red carpet on Saturday in Los Angeles, which was made from tiny strings that frayed out like a peacock when she twirled

The shimmering garment was in fact made by a contestant on Project Runway named Sean Kelly, and Heidi was sure to thank him in a social media post about her outfit for the evening.

It was made from a collection of what looked to be silk string fabric, forming a luminous sleek garment when they laid flat against her model body.

But when Heidi twirled, the tassels flowed out and turned into a glamorous puff - like a peacock.

Special: The dress was made by Project Runway designer Sean Kelly and Heidi thanked him on Twitter

She wore tall black heels and kept her jewellery to a minimum with a matching blue pendant necklace plus a ring by Lorraine Schwartz.

The German born stunner wore her long blonde tresses - made even longer with hair extensions - into a neat ponytail and had it flow down the length of her bare back, revealed by the backless dress.

Clearly enjoying the novel functionality of her dress, Heidi did twirls for the cameras and hosts, giving the up and coming designer a good spot of publicity at the star-studded event.

The leggy blonde is up for an Emmy for the most outstanding Host For A Reality Or Reality-Competition Program, along with her partner in crime Tim Gunn.

They will go up against against the likes of Jane Lynch for Hollywood Game Night, who was also present on the red carpet looking sleek in a black pants suit.

Kate Mara - who is nominated for her role on House Of Cards for best guest actress - also opted for a splash of colour, dressing up in a bright yellow tailored dress for her turn on the red carpet.

Her rumoured love interest Ian Somerhalder was there although the pair were not photographed together.

A short silver silk frock was the order of the day for Amy Schumer, whilst Alison Janney opted for a full length tight black gown.

The Creative Arts Emmys - typically held the weekend before the main event - recognize 'key technical disciplines and behind-the-scenes crafts essential to television production', according to the Television Academy's website.
