Gigi Hadid may have been stripping off - but it was all for a good cause.

But while the 19-year-old was selflessly raising awareness of a devastating disease, she may also have had an ulterior motive.

The model challenged her ex Cody Simpson to follow her lead and complete the ALS ice bucket challenge - and in so doing made sure he wouldn't miss her bikini body.

It's her turn! Model Gigi Hadid took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on Sunday and posted the video to Instagram before nominating Joe Jonas, Michael Buble and model Sara Sampaio

Instagram: Gigi Hadid wows in a bikini for Ice Bucket Challenge

The pretty blonde slipped into a pink swimsuit to get cold water poured all over her on Sunday, before also nominating Joe Jonas, Michael Buble and model Sara Sampaio.

Her long and already wet tresses fell over her shoulders, whilst the triangle bathing suit flattered her toned and tanned physique.

She managed to get her entire speech out in 15 seconds - as required for an Instagram video - before a friend dumped a bucket of cold water on her, catching her slightly by surprise.

After thanking blogger Jared Eng for nominating her, Gigi told her followers that she was also doing this in honour of a close friend.

Flirtation? The 19-year-old model later wrote on Twitter that she would have nominated her ex boyfriend Cody Simpson if he wasn't on tour but later deleted the tweet

'In honor of my moms best friend @ellieod's brave and inspiring fight I am donating to the ALS research fund,' she wrote in the caption alongside her video.

Gigi tweeted singer Cody, 17, encouraging him to take on the challenge too, but deleted it only minutes later.

'Was going to nominate CS but he's on tour so that's not fair... But @CODYSIMPSON I NOMINATE YOU WHEN YOURE NOT ON THE ROAD ANYMORE,' she wrote [sic].

The pair were dating but broke up last month, and since then, they have each suggested that they may rekindle their relationship at some point.

The Los Angeles born stunner also nominated Joe Jonas, Michael Buble and model Sara Sampaio to take on the challenge next.

Both Cody and Gigi have been open about their split.

'I have a best friend in Gigi,' said the Aussie singer. 'We’ve been together and we’ve been broken up for certain reasons and we’ve been back together and we’ve broken up again because we’re always in different places working.

‘It’s complicated. Right now, I’m kind of single,’ he told The Today Network’s The Bump.

Gigi also recently opened up about her split from the Australian musician, setting the record straight after months of speculation about their split.

'I love Cody to death and he loves me,' the model told WWD.

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is an initiative which aims to raise money and awareness of the neurodegenerative disease, also known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

ALS damages the brain and spinal chord resulting in progressive paralysis.

Nominees can either accept the challenge and donate $10 to the ALS Association, or reject the offer and donate $100.
