'How do I know it's safe for my kids?' Cindy Crawford pulls her children out of Malibu school amid fears it is contaminated with cancer-causing toxins
Last week she joined a rally advocating for environmental safety at Malibu schools, which have allegedly been contaminated by toxins.
And on Tuesday, Cindy Crawford revealed that she had kept son Presley, 15, and daughter Kaia, 13, home in the upscale ocean-side town north of Los Angeles over fears that their school, Malibu High, was contaminated by cancer-causing PCBs.
The 48-year-old made the revelation in an interview with Maria Shriver on The Today Show, saying: 'How do I know it’s safe for my kids? I am very frustrated and very disappointed at the way this has been handled.'

Speaking out: Cindy Crawford told Today Show correspondent Maria Shriver on Tuesday that she had kept her children at home because she wasn't satisfied with school board assertions that Malibu High was free of PCBs
Concerned mum: The supermodel has two children at the school, son Presley, 15, and daughter Kaia, 13
The supermodel's outburst came after the Environmental Protection Agency agreed with the school district that the immediate problem had been handled through air testing for PCBs, or polychlorinated biphenyls.
But that wasn't enough for Cindy and husband Randy Gerber, 52, who offered to pay for testing of the sealant around the windows where the substance was frequently used. But their offer was turned down.
She told Maria: 'The problem is that they haven’t tested the source. Unless they’re testing every day, how do I know it’s safe for my kids?
Generous offer: PCBs were commonly used in the caulking for windows but the 48-year-old's offer to pay for such tests was turned down by the school board
School's out: Cindy told Maria, 'Unless they're testing every day, how do I know it's safe for my kids?'
'I don’t feel 100 percent safe. I look 10 years down the line, what if my kid, God forbid, had a problem? How could I live with myself if I knew that it was a possibility, and I still sent them there?'
Both women were casually dressed for the interview, Cindy in a mid-blue shirt and jeans and Maria in a jean jacket and dark blue trousers.
Last Tuesday Cindy took to the podium outside the Malibu Library to give a speech about the problem of toxins in school buildings, with plenty of media in attendance capturing what she had to say.

Wing star Joshua Malina and actor Ed Begley Jr. also got up to address the crowd, which
included school board members, lawyers and students carrying signs.
All of the celebrities spoke on behalf of a group called Malibu Unites, which has joined
forces with Malibu Parents For Healthy Schools to advocate for
environmental safety at local schools.

According to their website, PCBs ‘are a group of man-made chemicals used as insulation, coolants, and other electrical equipment; as plasticizers in paints, plastics, and rubber products; and in surface coating, sealants, caulking compounds, fire retardants, glues, inks, pesticides, and carbonless copy paper.’
The Malibu Times states that the two advocacy groups formed after environmental controversy erupted
at Malibu High School and Middle School when several teachers came forward with health
issues last October, including three with thyroid cancer.
To
make matters worse, it was revealed that toxic soil was found at
Malibu High in 2010, with the school district failing to inform parents
about the problem.
