Rock Aid Raises Over $4,000 for Telco Together

17th June 2013

The inaugural Rock Aid charity event - created by local Sydney bands, The Hips and The Hummers, to raise money for the Telco Together Foundation  –proved to be a great fundraising success with over $4,000 raised for Australian communities in need.

Attended by around 150 music lovers from across the telecommunications industry in Sydney, Rock Aid also welcomed ex Midnight Oil front man, the Honourable Peter Garrett AM MP, who happily posed for photos after addressing and thanking the crowd for their willingness to support the community through music.

Featured acts, The Hips and The Hummers, fully delivered on their promise to entertain, playing live rock tunes from the 70s through to the 90s for almost four hours. A surprise performance by rock legend Freddie Mercury (a.k.a Luke Coleman from Huawei, the evening’s MC) delighted the audience, as did Petroc Wilton’s rendition of Blister in the Sun by the Violent Femmes. Other performances included Maha Krishnapillai and Matt Healey on guitar.

Telco Together would like to thank John Stanton from Communications Alliance – who was the key facilitator and driver of the event's success- as well as The Hips and The Hummers for donating their talents; The Randwick Labor Club for donating the venue; Peter Garrett for his support; our generous raffle prize donators HuaweiThe Basket Factory and Communications Day Australasia; the Inspire Foundation for providing volunteers; and all of our attendees who made the event a success.

All proceeds from Rock Aid will go to Telco Together’s Community Partners.
