His divorce from on/off wife Téa Leoni was finalised this month.

And for the first time, David Duchovny was spotted back at work on the North Hollywood set of NBC show Aquarius on Wednesday.

The newly single 55-year-old was armed with a typical LAPD gun holster over his dress shirt, tie, and trousers.

The two-time Golden Globe winner was seen walking past a Black Panther Party rally for the new one-hour drama, which is set in 1967.

20-some extras doubled as supporters of the African-American revolutionary socialist organization, which lasted from 1966 until 1982.

Aquarius centers on Sergeant Sam Hodiak as he begins investigating budding cult leader Charles Manson - still serving a life sentence at Corcoran State Prison for 'masterminding' multiple murders.

The 13-episode, retro 'event series' is expected to air sometime during the network's 2014–15 season.

Meanwhile, David officially cited 'irretrievable breakdown of the relationship' as the reason for ending his 17-year marriage.

The Hollywood couple separated twice during that time - once in 2008 and 2011 - due to his admitted sex addiction and her alleged affair with Billy Bob Thorton.

According to TMZ, 48-year-old Téa will have primary physical custody of their two children - daughter Madelaine, 15, and son Kyd, 12.

Duchovny will reportedly pay Leoni $40,000 a month in spousal support, and $8,333 a month in child support.

The Californication star's life motto is 'fail again, fail better' by Nobel Prize-winning writer Samuel Beckett.

'I try to teach my kids that you're going to fail so many more times in life than you're going to succeed,' David recently told the Huffington Post.

It's all about getting back up after you get knocked down. It really is "fail again, fail better." There's never a total success. Everything is just gradations of failure. Some things are total failures. Some things are just minor failures. That's what I mean by "fail better."'
