It was a 'very happy birthday' for Lea Michele, as she turned 28 on Friday.

Celebrating the next chapter of her life, the Glee starlet opted for an intimate celebration with her best gal pals.

And though she's been a fitness fanatic as of late, frequently spotted on hikes around Los Angeles, the brunette star decided to treat herself in honour of her special day.

'A very Happy Birthday.. (heart)(cake)(balloon),' the Cannonball singer posted to Instagram with a picture of herself blowing out candles on what appeared to be a chocolate cake.

Lea was sitting in a woven chair with her arms crossed on a table, and there seemed to be a gift bag placed on a counter behind her.

For her birthday bash, the star looked lovely in a plunging navy dress that cinched at her waist, as her hair flowed down in relaxed curls.

And the brunette beauty wore minimal make-up, revealing natural radiance.

Not only was she surrounded by close friends, but Lea was fortunate to have a chef cater her fete.

'Bday dinner now with @KitchyKitchen so excited!' the New Year's Eve actress said with a snapshot of her and chef Claire Thomas.

Culinary specialties of the evening included roasted garlic crostinis with sauteed mushrooms and herbs and kale salad.

Feeling the love, Lea also shared a picture with her besties gathered at the table.

'The best girlfriends in the world... @stephaniehartherman @dogtroit @jenniferswitch @jogarciaswisher,' she gushed with a picture of herself and Stephanie Herman, Dubrey Aoller, Jennifer Cohen, and Joanna Garcia Swisher.

No doubt Lea will have a second celebration with her boyfriend Matthew Paetz, who didn't appear to be present for the party.
