But Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are refusing to allow their separation to get in the way of the bringing up their children.

The estranged husband and wife were spotted enjoying the late summer weather in the exclusive New York enclave of the Hamptons as they headed for breakfast over the weekend.

The former couple looked relaxed in each other's company as they walked down a sunny road in the beachside town with their two kids, Apple and Moses, as well as another young boy.

The Coldplay frontman certainly got into the area's laid-back vibe and ditched his shoes to walk barefoot along the tarmac.

Meanwhile, chic Oscar-winner Gwyneth showed off her slender legs in a pair of tiny shorts, matched with an oversized cream jumper.

Apple, 10, kept close to her mother's side and looked like her double in a similar outfit.

Chris and Gwyneth appeared to go their separate ways after returning to their properties with bags from a nearby store.

The couple are said to be staying in separate houses just yards away from one another while they stay in the area, a favourite of the rich and famous eager who want to get out of the city over the summer.

Chris has reportedly rented a mansion belonging to Los Angeles Lakers manager Mitch Kupchak, close to the home Gwyneth is sharing with her two kids.

Since the pair confirmed they had split - or a 'conscious uncoupling' as the actress described it on her goop.com blog - they have been spotted out together on several occasions.

Recent rumours suggest the pair have both moved on from their 10-year marriage, with Chris reportedly dating Hollywood sensation Jennifer Lawrence.

A source said: 'She's just a cool girl. She's the anti-Gwyneth. She's not so rigid. He's enjoying being with someone carefree. He's smiling again. Genuinely.'

Meanwhile, Gwyneth has been linked to Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk. The pair reportedly struck up a friendship after the 41-year-old blonde appeared on the hit TV musical as recurring substitute teacher Holly Holiday.
