The leaking of the intimate shots of famous female stars sparked initial suggestions that Apple's iCloud service had been compromised to access the images and leak them across the internet.

Kim's name was on a released list of celebrities whose accounts may also have been hacked.

But the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star told the BBC on Wednesday that she no longer has an iCloud account on her phone, deleting it a few years ago.

'I don't even know where this cloud is or where all this information is that can be hacked into,' Kim said. 'I deleted my iCloud account ages ago because I didn't really understand it and I was aware that it was so easily accessible.'

The 33-year-old star is currently in London where she appeared at Tuesday night's GQ Men Of The Year Awards.

And she was speaking from experience - a sex tape she made with Ray J back in 2003 was famously leaked in early 2007.

'It seems like there's a lot of people that love to spend their time hacking people's information,' she said. 'And that's just a scary thing.'

Nude photos of celebrities were leaked online after Apple confirmed users login details had been worked out by hackers.

Apple however denied its security systems had been breached and said engineers spent 40 hours investigating the issue.

The photos have led to a backlash against the unknown hacker who is accused of violating the privacy of the women involved. A police investigation is under way to identify the culprit.

Several websites published pictures of Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence, while images of model Kate Upton and actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead also appeared online.
