She may be a very busy woman but Jennifer Lopez still had time for a big surprise on Thursday.

The singer showed up at the Today studios to be a guest host for the day, much to the delight of Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb.

Producers had quite a big trick up their sleeve as Hoda went to play a song by Katy Perry, at which point Jennifer’s new single Booty came on.

‘That’s JLo. I picked JLo’s before, I didn’t pick JLo today,’ a confused Hoda told the audience.

At that very moment the 45-year-old singer walked out from backstage, and Kathie Lee and Hoda’s jaws dropped.

‘Oh my gosh!’ Hoda, 50, exclaimed, while Kathie Lee added: ‘Well you should have [picked JLo] apparently!’

The 61-year-old couldn’t believe that Jennifer was standing before her, and all she could say was: ‘What are you doing?’

The I Luh Ya Papi hit-maker joked: ‘I don’t know. It’s so early!’

And when the presenters were eager to know if Jennifer had any other surprises in store, she only teased: ‘Maybe a little something later.’

Jennifer opened up about her beauty regime and said that she uses a cleanser from her dermatologist – ‘nothing top secret’ – and a cream ‘from Whole Foods’.

The star also revealed how she has slimmed down recently, and said she has lost ‘about 10lbs’ from a vegan diet. While she claims to not drink very much, Hoda and Kathie Lee still presented her with a glass of rose - her favourite.

Fans sent in questions and many wanted to know how Jennifer maintains her fantastic figure. Her answer was simply eating well and exercising.

'You have to work out. You have to move,' JLo said. 'Nobody loves it. We all hate it. It’s the worst. When it’s over you feel great but it’s hard to do. '

She added: 'I do circuit training. I won't go crazy. I’ll do 20 to 30 minutes of cardio and then muscle work .'

JLo told the hosts how she dislikes being too airbrushed when it comes to photo shoots.

'I try to do minimal because I really want it to be real,' she explained. 'I think it’s good that ever if that original comes out it’s not like, "Whoa!"'

The superstar was in her native New York for the surprise TV appearance, which was part of Viva Today's Latin week.

And she spoke about her Puerto Rican heritage, telling Kathie Lee and Hoda: 'It’s just something I carry with me everywhere I go.'

But she has been travelling around a lot recently and was seen in The Hamptons over the weekend after a trip to New Orleans for American Idol auditions.

Prior to that, Jennifer was in Los Angeles where she attended the MTV Video Music Awards late last month.

The star has been plugging her latest song Booty, which will be the third single released from her album A.K.A., out now.

And a very raunchy teaser of the video, which also stars Iggy Azalea, aired on the show and left Hoda and Kathie Lee quite frankly speechless.
