He earned his adult comedy stripes as a funny frat boy in the hit movie Neighbors earlier this year.

Now Zac Efron has signed up for his next comic role alongside Robert DeNiro in Dirty Grandpa.

The Hollywood Reporter that the pair will star together in the road trip comedy, although it is said to be in the early stages of production.

Efron is set to play a young man tricked into giving his grandfather a ride to Florida during spring break.

DeNiro will play the titular character, a perverted for Army general who believes Zac's character is marrying the wrong woman.

THR report that the film will be direction by Dan Mazer whose previous credits include I Give It A Year and worked as a writer on Borat, Bruno and The Dictator.

Efron recently revealed wants to tackle as many genres as possible after his At Any Price co-star Dennis Quaid told him how important he felt it was to keep "changing up" his career.

He said: "I've always wanted to do as many different things as possible.

'I once did a movie with Dennis Quaid and I asked him, 'If you could go back to your younger self, what would you say?'

'He said, "Just keep doing different kinds of movies and always change it up", so that's what I try and do."

Efron took the reins as producer for the first time on comedy 'That Awkward Moment' and says having an extra involvement made working on the movie even more special.

He told the Metro newspaper: 'This was my first movie as a producer and it meant I was able to help facilitate who was in the film.

'I felt like I was a little bit instrumental in putting it together, so I took a lot of pride in how this film was made, from the ground up.

'Movies are not just made by actors or directors or photographers. There's a whole crew and it's a massive undertaking.'
