Sun smart superhero! X-Men's Hugh Jackman shields himself from UV rays with stetson hat after two cancer scares as he grabs coffee with mum Grace and dog Dali

He's had two skin cancer scares in the past year.

So it's no surprise to see Hugh Jackman not taking any risks when it comes to protecting his skin.

The 45-year-old kept under the shade with a straw stetson hat on Friday as he spent some quality time with his mother Grace McNeil and his dog Dali in New York.

After an initial cancer scare last year, the X-Men actor had an operation to remove a basal cell carcinoma on his nose back in May - before urging his fans to always be cautious and 'please! please wear sunscreen!' 

Hugh also shielded his eyes with a pair of sunnies, and had his slim-yet-muscular physique on display in a plain navy T-shirt.

Clad in a monochrome outfit and drinking a cup of coffee, Grace laughed happily as she walked along with her son.

But they weren't the only ones enjoying New York's sunny weather, as Hugh's beloved French Bulldog Dali got a chance to stretch his little legs.

In recent months he had been sporting exuberant facial hair for his role as Blackbeard in the upcoming film Pan, but on Monday he shaved it all off. 

He said goodbye to his scruffy beard as a barber took a pair of clippers and gave him a new look.

Dressed in a blue barber's gown, he captioned the Instagram footage, 'Going... Gone..' and showed off his clean shaven face after the makeover. 

Hugh has spent the past week immersed in the US Open, which is hosted in New York.

But his love for tennis doesn't eclipse his love for 58-year-old wife Deborra-Lee Furness, who he was spotted sharing a kiss with during the Roger Federer vs. Gael Monflis match on Thursday.
