Watch Dogs launches for Wii U Nov. 18

Ubisoft will release the Wii U version of its open-world stealth hacking game, Watch Dogs, Nov. 18 in North America, the company announced today. The Wii U version will feature new functions specific to the console. During play, the world map will be displayed on the GamePad. The Wii U version also includes Off-TV play, which allows users to play the game on the GamePad and away from the Wii U. Watch Dogs launched in May for PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. In March, senior producer Dominic Guay told Polygon that a 2014 ship date for the Wii U game was still a "possibility." According to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, the company has been freezing the Wii U launch of completed games in order to wait for a larger install base. Some college campuses blocked from playing Destiny, Bungie working on solution [Update]

Early this morning Bungie officials tweeted that they were aware of issues that prevent some people from playing Destiny on college campuses and that they were working on a solution. We're aware of issues with playing Destiny on college campuses. Stay tuned for information to share with your local network admins. — Bungie (@Bungie) September 10, 2014 The issue seems to track back to the "centipede" error code which apparently has to do with a networking problem. According to the Error Code: Centipede page, Bungie is doing some testing to resolve the issue. They also recommend opening a series of ports, detailed on the page, on institutional networks. College students running into the issue are less than pleased with the day-one bump in the road. "After installing the game...

More than half a billion dollars worth of Destiny shipped by day one

While Activision has yet to release solid Destiny sales numbers, the company did announce today that it shipped more than $500 million worth of Destiny to retail stores and first parties worldwide by Sept. 9. The publisher says that makes the game the biggest new franchise launch in history. We've reached out to the company for actual sales numbers and will update this story when they reply. While the number of games shipped to a retailer aren't an accurate reflection of sales, it does give a glimpse of the expectation both retailers and publishers have for audience demand. "Based on extraordinary audience demand, retail and first party orders worldwide have exceeded $500 million for Destiny," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. "This industry milestone marks another...

Xbox One Japan release has worst launch of any console in recent years

Xbox One sold 23,562 units in its first week on the Japanese market following its launch in the region earlier this month — less than half of the number of Xbox 360 systems sold in Japan, Famitsu reports. The console's launch saw the lowest in sales of any system in recent years, placing it below both Wii U and PlayStation 4 sales during the first two days of their respective launches. By comparison, Wii U saw sales of 308,000 units during the first two days of its launch, while PS4 saw sales of 322,000. Xbox 360, on the other hand, sold 62,135 units in half the time it took for Xbox One to sell just over 20,000 units. The new Microsoft console launched to Japan on Sept. 6, alongside the release of 29 titles including Killer Instinct, Dead Rising 3 and Titanfall. A full list of games...

Let's get our asses to Mars in Destiny

We're on that Glimmer chase.Destiny's servers have been live for certain early access individuals since Monday, and in the interim, our reviewers have been tirelessly plugging away at the game. In this video, they take their first steps on Mars — an appropriately harsh take on the red planet, which is populated by shielded soldiers and bulbous warlords with near-infinite HP. To hear some mid-game thoughts on what Destiny's post-beta content looks and feels like, check out the Overview posted above.

The Dark Knight and Man of Steel come to Lego Batman 3 in the game's season pass

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham will have the distinction of being the first Lego video game to feature a season pass, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today. The six-part season pass will offer downloadable content based on The Dark Knight, Man of Steel and the 75th anniversary of Batman's first appearance in Detective Comics. They include The Dark Knight pack, which lets players take control of Batman, Commissioner Gordon, Joker, Bane and Catwoman; Man of Steel, in which players assume the role of Superman's father Jor-El in a battle against General Zod; and the 75th anniversary pack, which stars Joker, Harley Quinn and the Dark Knight in a celebration of all things...

Ray Rice will be kicked out of Madden, too

Per normal procedure for licensed sports video games, the disgraced running back Ray Rice will be removed from Madden NFL 15's official online roster with its next update next week. Rice, seen in a newly released security camera video knocking out his then-fiancée with a punch to the head in February, was released by the Baltimore Ravens yesterday, and then suspended indefinitely by the NFL. Either action would have removed him from the official roster, which Madden NFL 15 uses for all ranked online matches. Rice remains on the roster that shipped with the game at launch; EA Sports cannot remove him from any career mode, online or offline, that is already underway, as they use a separate roster created when the user begins their campaign. Rice is a 77-rated running back in the game's...

Assassin's Creed Unity's heist missions require stealth and your utmost cooperation

Navigating Assassin's Creed Unity's two-player heist missions requires you to work in tandem with your partner and avoid charging into the thick of things head-on, we learned during some recent hands-on time with the game. Assassin's Creed Unity offers a single-player campaign mode, which follows the story of assassin lead Arno, as well as Brotherhood missions, or narrative-driven co-op quests for up to four people. Side-missions are present as well in the form of assassination contracts or heists. Speaking with Polygon during the demo, producer Lesley Phord-Toy said that heist missions are "more systemic" with less of a focus on narrative. The idea is that you can play them again and again, she said, but each time the conditions will be slightly different — a variation on guards,...

NBA Live delayed three weeks to Oct. 28 (Update)

NBA Live 15's new release date is Oct. 28, according to the game's official page on the EA Sports website. It had been scheduled to launch on Oct. 7, head-to-head against NBA 2K15. Polygon has reached out to EA Sports for additional comment. (Update) Executive producer Sean O'Brien, in an open letter, said the delay will be used to polish the game. "This was a hard decision, but it's the right one, as we are totally committed to delivering the highest-quality game we possibly can," he wrote. "The team took on an incredible amount of work this year literally touching every single system in gameplay, focusing on providing improved control and responsiveness, as well as animation that both looks and feels great," O'Brien wrote. "That will be our calling card moving forward." EA Sports'...

Analyst: Wii U sales up in August, as Xbox One finds increase against PS4

Hardware sales are notoriously difficult to trust, obfuscated by research companies that seek to monetize findings and hardware companies keen to present stats in the most flattering light possible. Still, there are reasons to take a look at analyst Michael Pachter's estimates for August, which he released in a note to investors. Pachter is well regarded by the financial media and has excellent contacts at big games companies and retailers. His numbers for August show that 390,000 Wii U, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles were sold in the U.S. for the month. Wedbush analyst Pachter said that Wii U sales more than doubled year-over-year to 65,000, helped along by the continuing success of Mario Kart 8. PlayStation 4 sold 175,000, down 7 percent month-on-month, he said, while Xbox...

Fibbage is the best Xbox One game you're not playing

If you weren't paying attention last month, you may have completely missed Fibbage. The new release from Jackbox Games, the studio behind the long-running trivia franchise You Don't Know Jack, passed me by completely, and I'm paid to keep up with this stuff. (Of course, I am now in charge of a brand new human child, so anything that isn't fantasizing about sleep and cleaning up vomit is taking a lower mental priority at the moment.) I've finally rectified my error and have donned my last non-vomit coated shirt to speak about Fibbage in the hopes that you, the people, won't repeat my mistake of missing out on this delightful new party game. The idea is simple: A piece of trivia is presented that's missing a single word, and between two to eight players secretly punch in a believable...

Batman: Arkham Knight launching June 2, 2015, with two special editions (update)

Batman: Arkham Knight is set for release June 2, 2015, on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced today. The open-world action title was originally scheduled to be available this fall, but Warner Bros. announced in June that it had delayed the game to 2015. Two different special editions will be released alongside the stand-alone game. Both will be available on PS4 and Xbox One in North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, while the Limited Edition will also be available on PC, but only in Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The Limited Edition of Batman: Arkham Knight will come in a Steelbook case with an 80-page art book; issue zero of DC Comics' Batman: Arkham Knight comic book; three exclusive New 52 character...

Destiny is likely coming to PC, but don't hold your breath for an announcement

The servers for Bungie and Activision's Destiny will be live by the time you read this, and the press will be spending the day playing and post streams, videos and impressions from the game's opening hours. The game launches tomorrow on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, but one important group is being left out of the party. The PC gamers. We were told there was no news on a possible PC version when we asked on Friday, just in case the game being all but shipped meant that there were new people free to work on this possible port. That's not surprising, but many PC fans are still holding off on picking up a console version until they get a release for their favorite platform. So what has been said about this in the past? It sounds pretty likely "It is [a good...

NHL 15 will patch in some — but not all — missing features after launch

EA Sports' NHL development team responded last night to fans' unhappiness that a wide array of features from NHL 14 have not carried over to NHL 15. Taken one way, the news shows developers always meant for some things to be included. Taken another, they've admitted they're releasing an incomplete product tomorrow. Online team play — in which all 12 players on the ice may be controlled by individual human players — and a full amateur draft in the game's Be A GM career mode will be patched into NHL 15 in October, producer Sean Ramjagsingh wrote in a post on Operation Sports. Neither are present in the game launching tomorrow. At launch, a draft is simulated in the background of the Be A GM career mode, and online play is strictly a 1-versus-1 affair. Ramjagsingh said the draft in Be...

Bungie discusses the lack of day-one reviews for Destiny

We knew that there wouldn't be day-one reviews for Destiny, but in a blog post today the company has explained this decision to the fans. "From the beginning, we set out to make Destiny feel like more than bits on a drive. We wanted to build a place for players to visit — a place filled with luminous life. Without a vibrant population for the last safe city on Earth, and Guardians roaming the wild frontiers, Destiny is a shadow of what it should be. That’s not how we wanted to submit for review," the post stated. "We explored several options to populate the world for reviewers. Our team estimates it would take thousands of gamers to ensure each potential public space in Destiny would be populated – that every activity would be accessible at all hours of the day and night....

Polygon plays: Destiny - live

UPDATE: we're taking a break, but will be back for more Destiny later. We've embedded the playthrough so far below if you'd like to watch. Destiny is finally here, and your reviews editors Phil Kollar and Arthur Gies are livestreaming as they play through from start to finish. And probably quite a bit more after that. The livestream will begin when Bungie pushes Destiny's servers live, which is currently expected at 5 a.m. PT on Monday morning. For those interested, here's our playthrough so far: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4

Pre-loading of the digital edition of Destiny, which formally launches on Sept. 9, has begun on Xbox Live and PlayStation 4, meaning those who have already ordered the game can begin downloading it to have it ready to go when the game unlocks. The game becomes available at 3 am ET Sept. 9, midnight PT.
