Shameless-ly sophisticated! Emmy Rossum shows off her slim figure in a pretty crimson dress as she leaves friend's birthday party

With her flared crimson dress and leopard print heels, Emmy Rossum looked the picture of sophistication as she left a friend's birthday party in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The Shameless star's frock accentuated her figure in all the right places and she wore her dark tresses down in natural waves, adding athick layer of eyeliner and nude lipstick.

It was a weekend of celebration with the 28-year-old also celebrating her birthday last Friday.

The star carried an oversized coordinating handbag and a wrapped gift in her other hand as she left the event.

Earlier in the day, the pretty brunette tweeted a picture of herself holding her dog.

She captioned the snap: 'They say people look like their dogs... I guess they are right.'

Over the weekend, Emmy, who plays Fiona Gallagher in the hit show, was quite a vision in a spectacular black and white strapless chiffon Oscar de la Renta gown as she headed to watch a performance of the LA Opera's production of La Traviata starring Placido Domingo on Saturday.

She tweeted:' VERY excited to see Traviata tonight at the @LAOpera! The birthday weekend continues! #operaball2014 @PlacidoDomingo #LAOTraviata.'

Afterwards, the birthday girl headed to dinner at Craig's Restaurant in West Hollywood with boyfriend Sam Esmail.

The starlet looked stunning as she walked hand in hand with her writer beau.

The couple met on the set of Comet which he wrote and directed and she stars in and began dating in August. The movie premiered at the LA Film Festival in June.

Emmy, who is divorced from music executive Justin Seigel, told Cosmopolitan magazine this month that she prefers a geeky guy - which is good news for Sam.

She said: 'I don't gravitate to the jock; it's the nerdy guy in the corner. I'm dating a writer now. Writers are sexy.'

The actress also revealed she has not ruled out getting married again: 'I hope I do,' she told the magazine. 'Honestly, I was so young, I don't think I knew what marriage meant.'
