The explosion (right) was carried out by army experts this afternoon after police sealed off a semi-detached home in St Albans, Hertfordshire, where a cache of wartime explosives and memorabilia were discovered in a garage (left). A 48-year-old man, named locally as Alan Tissington, has been arrested on suspicion of obtaining the historic objects by way of illegal metal detecting from a prisoner of war camp in the UK. It is a criminal offence to retrieve artefacts from the ground through using a metal detector if the land is a protected site or without permission of the landowner.
