Owners of the new iPhone 6 Plus (pictured) have been surprised with an unintended extra feature dubbed 'bend gate'. It is believed the thinner model and the use of aluminium metal in its design causes the phone to deform. However, other handsets will bend under a similar amount of pressure, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z1.

Police launch probe into the Alice case blunders: Clues may have been missed on the first day as it is revealed suspect's landlord was convicted paedophile
The internal probe will examine what was done in the immediate aftermath of the 14-year-old’s disappearance – the so-called ‘golden hour’ when most cases are solved. The Metropolitan Police faces criticism over delays in asking the Latvian authorities for help in catching prime suspect Arnis Zalkalns. In another twist, it emerged yesterday that Zalkalns had been living with a convicted paedophile before he went missing. Lionel Ferris, 68, pictured, owned the house in West London where Zalkalns lived with his girlfriend and daughter. Mr Ferris, who died behind bars a few weeks ago, is thought to have been recalled to prison for breaking his parole.
Devastated mother tells of anguish at watching teenager drown in lake tragedy not realising it was her own son
Melanie Goodship, 40, (right)was walking her dogs at Lake Burwain in Colne, Lancashire (inset), when she saw a group of teenagers struggling as the raft they were on began drifting out of control. The civil servant went to the group’s aid only to learn her son James, 17,(left, and with his mother) had disappeared under the freezing water whilst attempting to get help. She tried to ring his phone in desperation but his body was found in the reservoir the following morning. Another teenager who tried to make the swim with him had to be treated for hypothermia.

The target was an Al Qaeda-linked group, Khorasan, apparently nearing ‘the execution phase’ of a plot against airports and passenger planes in the West. The American attack on the terrorist group was separate from airstrikes on 14 Islamic State targets in Syria carried out by the US and five Arab nations. In the early hours of yesterday Tomahawk cruise missiles were launched against hideouts, training camps and a bomb-making factory used by Khorasan and Islamic State. Fighter jets included America's £87m F-22 stealth Raptor - the first time the US has used the F-22 in combat. The jets hit targets in and around IS stronghold of Raqqa, where the Western hostages were thought to have been held.

The Labour leader said he was trying to do politics differently by not reading a pre-prepared text, but the Tories have mocked him for failing to mention the deficit or tackling immigration in his final party conference speech before the General Election at the Labour conference in Manchester. The party leader had been expected to promise to make immigrants 'learn English and earn their way' and suggest that all those who can work 'have a responsibility to do so'. However, he failed to touch on the key points and aides confirmed the speech, given without notes, had 'changed' as it was being delivered.

Mr Cameron's indiscreet remarks were picked up as he went on a walkabout with former New York mayor Michael Bloomberg, when he also vowed to 'sue' pollsters who had given him stomach ulcers. His comments were blasted by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond, who led the campaign for independence, as 'absolutely pathetic'.

Can you guess which celebrity created these incredible works of art? Famous names including Stephen Fry, David Cameron and Ed Miliband donate paintings and sketches to auction in aid of hospice
A collection of incredible postcard-sized paintings, which includes creations from the Prime Minister and his political rival, is due to go under the hammer as part of a charity auction. But the famous face behind the piece of work - which includes actors Stephen Fry, Danny Dyer and Sir Ian McKellen - will be kept under wraps until the work has been sold. The Secret Art Project, which will raise money for St Gemma's Hospice in Leeds, will feature contributions from the likes of Katherine Jenkins, Brian Blessed and Sir Ben Kingsley. Sir Ian McKellen, Emma Atkins and the CEO of Ann Summers, Jacqueline Gold, have also supplied their own mini creations for the cause.

House of horrors: More than 100 green-fanged spiders the size of tablespoons invade young family’s home
Dan Jackson and his three-year-old son Ruben (pictured left) are scared to go outside their Southampton home as 'tube web spiders' have filled every hole and crack in their garden and walls (right). The black creatures with shiny green fangs sew distinctive tube-shaped webs inside cracks and holes and wait by the entrance for prey to touch the strands. Now Mr Jackson, 29, is worried they may get into his house and harm his son, as their bites can cause a sharp injection-like pain.
DJ Dave Lee Travis faces jail after being found GUILTY of groping TV personality but CLEARED of assault on stage hand - and jury fails to reach verdict on third charge
Former Radio 1 DJ Dave Lee Travis has been found guilty of groping a female TV personality, who was working on the Mrs Merton Show in January 1995. Travis, who arrived at court with his wife Marianne Griffin (right), was cleared on a second indecent assault charge and the jury was discharged after it was unable to agree a verdict on a count of sexual assault. Travis, who became a household name in the 1970s (inset), faced a retrial after jurors failed to reach verdicts on two of the charges earlier this year. He becomes the third celebrity scalp to be claimed by high-profile sex crime inquiry, Operation Yewtree. The former radio star was warned that he could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years for the crime.
First day of Autumn: Britain wakes up to blanket of mist and fog but it soon disperses to make way for warm sunshine… which is set to last until early October
Parts of the UK awoke to a thick blanket of fog and poor visibility this morning, but the conditions soon deteriorated to make way for the dry and warm weather which is set to last into next week. The Met Office has predicted temperatures of up to 21C in some parts of Britain on Thursday, several degrees above the 16.5C average for this time of year. It will be a welcome relief to those who were greeted by thick fog this morning, with some parts of the country including east Devon, Hampshire, Kent and Richmond Park in London (left and top centre), experiencing extremely low visibility levels. However, the fog soon dispersed to make way for a beautiful sunrise, including in Avonmouth, Bristol (right) and at Primrose Hill, north London, where dozens turned out to mark the autumnal equinox.

Israeli special forces kill Hamas militants suspected of murder of three teenagers after they storm their West Bank hideout
Two Palestinians suspected over the abduction and murders of three Israeli teenagers have been killed by Israeli special forces who stormed a West Bank hideout. The deaths of the two well-known Hamas militants, Amer Abu Aisheh and Marwan Qawasmeh, ended one of the largest manhunts conducted by the Israeli security forces. The deaths came after a special police counter-terrorism unit was led to the suspects hideout in an area of Hebron about a week ago. Three members of Qawasmeh's family was also arrested.
