Let love be your energy! Janel Parrish gives much improved performance on Dancing With The Stars... after admitting to falling for partner Val Chmerkovskiy

By MailOnline Reporter

They had already steamed up our screens with their powerful chemistry and talk of wanting a ‘blossoming relationship’.

But now a tender moment suggests Dancing With The Stars partners Janel Parrish and Valentin Chmerkovskiy may have already moved beyond mere blossoming.

As Janel admitted to disappointment at her scores in week one, the cameras caught the Pretty Little Liars star having an intimate moment with shirtless Val after he reassured her they had it all to dance for.

She was seen tenderly touching his cheek, kissing him on the lips - and clearly heard saying: ‘I love you.’

While they were never asked about the status of their relationship, their affection appears to have helped them with a far better performance in week two, being just one point below the night’s top scorer.

But they could not compete with Back To The Future star Lea Thompson whose jive had at least one judge falling over with praise.

As Carrie Ann Inaba gushed about how Leah was a ‘wild beast’ who was ‘killing it’ she suddenly tumbled off her chair and onto the floor.

Quickly regaining herself, she stood and bowed, saying: ‘I’m OK. I’m experienced in the fall department.’

‘By the way, Carrie Ann is the only judge for whom we’ve installed air bags,’ host Tom Bergeron quipped.

But Tom got even bigger laughs when, after fellow judge Len Goodman said he had been ‘kicked in the lower portions’ in the fall, he shot back: ‘Is it great to get feeling back there again?’

Leah’s dance to Land of a Thousand Dances by Wilson Pickett got 9s from all the judges but Len, who gave her a nine.

‘You gave me chills more than one time during that dance,’ Julianne Hough insisted. ‘There's something so feisty about you, you're a hot mama leopard.’

It was also a proud week for her partner Artem Chigvintsev, one of the new pros on the show who told of how he has become an American citizen.

Janel and Valentin were just a point away from the top of the leaderboard after Val admitted pushing his partner hard in rehearsals for their foxtrot to Carly Rae Jepsen's Call Me Maybe.

‘That wasn’t really a traditional foxtrot,’ Julianne told them, quickly adding: ‘But screw tradition - I loved it!’

Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann both called it ‘almost perfect’ - but Val warned that the high praise was actually bad news for his partner.

‘The training worked - so I can’t be nice from here on in,’ he teased her.

The biggest transformation - and perhaps loudest applause - came for quirky fashion designer Betsey Johnson who was almost voted off after a wardrobe malfunction left their routine in week one in complete shambles.

‘It was the worst experience I ever had in my life,’ Betsey insisted. ‘This week I’m for a total visual, mental makeover. If I screw this up it’s over. No more last shot.’

As well as improving their dance steps, the judges were astonished at Betsey’s complete image transformation with her hair up and dressed like an old screen legend.

‘Betsey, I’ve never seen you look so great,’ Len told her. ‘Normally you’ve got all that stuff on - you look fabulous!’

‘All hail queen Betsey!’ Carrie Ann agreed. ‘You are exquisite. I had no idea who you were underneath all of that fun stuff. What a transformation.’

Her fun-filled foxtrot to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper had a huge standing ovation from the crowd and all 7s from the judges.

Betsey movingly put it all down to dance pro Tony Dovalani. ‘I feel completely remade by Tony - this is Tony’s work,’ she told co-host Erin Andrews.

‘He said that he loves me and he wants me to once feel onstage like I’m pretty - and I’ve never felt pretty.’

But one contestant had to be careful about not having too much of a sexy transformation - teenage Duck Dynasty Sadie Robertson.

During rehearsals, dad Willie Robertson had a video chat to give his approval on her dresses, turning down some as too sexy and no bigger than ‘dish towels’.

He joked that he finally found one he approved of - when she walked out in her dressing gown. ‘I like it. It looks like, “I just got up - let’s dance!”,’ he joked.

Carrie Ann was worried what dad would think of Sadie’s final routine, with her playing a country girl in a jazz routine to Jason Aldean's Country Girl.

‘I think my maternal side is coming out. Was your dad ok with that routine?’ Carrie Ann asked. ‘It was a little edgy and a little sexy. But I thought you killed it.’

Julianne called her ‘a natural performer’ but Len said it ‘didn’t quite gel for me’ as he gave her a 7 to the other judges 8s.

The most unusual praise of the night came for former underwear model Antonio Sabato Jr. when Bruno bluntly told him: ‘You've got a very nice butt. Use it more.’

And perhaps equally unexpected was when UFC legend Randy Couture was accused of not being aggressive enough.

‘You've got all this incredible sex appeal but it was a little underwhelming,’ Carrie Ann told the mixed martial arts champ after his cha cha.

‘It wasn’t aggressive - I mean you’re a fighter! It was cute but I want to bring out the other side of Randy.’

Couture - who served six years in the army - wore a vintage military suit for their cha-cha to the Rolling Stones' Satisfaction that got all 7s.

‘I think we could have a new hip action hero,’ Bruno joked. ‘Plenty of satisfaction in that department.’

Last week’s stand-out, former Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor Alfonso Ribeiro, chose former co-star Will Smith’s hit Gettin' Jiggy Wit It for his samba - admitting in rehearsals that he was really struggling and ‘super stressed’.

Wearing a white suit with blue accents that matched partner Witney Carson’s skimpy leotard - that almost made her look topless - the routine was clearly one of the crowd’s favorites.

But the judges all accused him of relying on his best moves rather than adapting to the style in question.

‘You're going to make everything look wonderful because you have the 'Alfonso groove’,’ Julianne told him, while Bruno said: ‘Your personal style charisma and feel for the music is unique and extraordinary. I could watch you dance forever.’

Carrie Ann, like the other judges giving an 8, said he gave them ‘the jiggy-jiggy jam’, but told him: ‘It was a solid performance, but not your best.’

Talk show host Tavis Smiley seemed to have the toughest week as his book signing tour got in the was of rehearsals.

‘I know you've had a tough week, but unfortunately it showed a bit,’ Len said after his cha-cha to Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire which saw him in a 70s disco wig and getting all 7s.

But the lowest score - all 6s - went to NASCAR champ Michael Waltrip, who joked that he chose the song Girls in Bikinis just to get pro partner Emma Slater in a bathing suit.

‘I’d like to see you in a bikini, I’m not gonna make that up,’ he told her, before being shown shirtless and in a bikini top himself.

‘The world needs more of what you got, because all you are is just joy,’ Carrie Ann told him. ‘However, I didn't see much of a samba.’

Bruno, meanwhile, said said of the routine where he was surrounded by bikini-glad women: ‘You must be the envy of every American male in the country. You have the Bond girls - Pussy Galore. It’s very difficult to keep the concentration going. I'm surprised you finished standing.’

Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett faced tough comments, with Len saying his routine had ‘loads of flim flam, not enough cha cha cha’, but still got a respectable score with two 7s and two 8s.

YouTube sensation Bethany Mota, who injured her ankle in rehearsals, got an even better score with 8s and one 9 - and even better news on Twitter with a message ‘from Taylor freakin’ Swift!’, as she put it.

‘I'm not a big Twitter man, I don't blog, but put this in your Twitter account: That's a great number,’ Len told her after her dance. ‘The best I've seen tonight.’

Comedian Tommy Chong was once again a clear crowd favorite - this time partly because he ripped open his pink satin shirt to show off his chest during his salsa.

‘The only way I can describe that is with a bunch of f-words,’ Julianne said. ‘It was fun, it was fast, the footwork’s awesome. So basically it was ‘effing fabulous.’

Len, meanwhile, told him he ‘overdosed on fun’. ‘You’re 76 and still working your assets. Well done.’

After getting 7s, Erin Andrews asked Tommy what message he had to viewers to keep him and dance pro Peta Murgatroyd in next week.

‘Please vote for us because if you do we’ll save the world,’ he replied, with Erin quickly replying: ‘Good luck choreographing that, Peta.’
