'The love of my life has passed away': John Stamos makes touching tribute after his mother Loretta Phillips dies at the age of 75

John Stamos is known for playing cool dude Jesse Katsopolis on the late eighties TV series Full House.

But on Tuesday the 51-year-old actor was pure emotion as he announced through social media the passing of his mother Loretta Phillips at the age of 75 on Monday.

'The love of my life passed away yesterday in her home surrounded by her children and grandchildren,' the star shared.

The dark-haired icon, who is now shooting the mid-season TV series Members Only with actress Natalie Zea, added, 'My mother had enough love to fuel a small country.

' She was truly one of a kind and will live forever in the hearts of all who knew her.

'A few weeks ago, I asked my mom if she remembered an inconsequential event - she simply replied, "I only remember the love." #Brokenhearted #Iloveyouthemost.'

Stamos posted a vintage photo of his mother, appearing glamorous in full hair and makeup, as she held John as a baby.

The image was in black-and-white and looked to have an air of old Hollywood elegance.

Another message read, 'If inclined, please donate to the charity, founded by my mother- The Vanguard Cancer Foundation.' 

The organization is dedicated to 'advocating for more personalized and intelligent cancer care.'
