'It's like suggesting I won the chook raffle': Hugh Jackman's wife Deborra-Lee Furness says she's sick of people calling her marriage 'lucky'
She's married to one of the most handsome men in the Australian film industry, but actress and wife of Hugh Jackman, Deborra-Lee Furness is tired of people calling her 'lucky'.
In a candid interview with the Australian Woman's Weekly, the founder of Adopt Change, 58, explains she doesn't appreciate the label which she considers to be somewhat demeaning.
'That to me is a putdown,' she said on Wednesday, '[It's] like you suggesting I won the chook raffle.'
'It's a putdown': Deborra-Lee Furness, 58, says she is tired of people referring to her life and marriage to Hugh Jackman, 45, as 'lucky'
Furness, who has been married to her Wolverine star husband, 45, for almost two decades, is herself a prominent cinema presence as a producer and director of short and independent films, in addition to being an avid ambassador for the streamlining of international adoption laws.
Angered by the fact that many people consider her lifestyle resulting from a matter of luck, she says she is adamant that every individual 'creates their own destiny'.
The mother-of-two added: 'When people look at my life, they don't know the challenges [I face], just like I don't know someone else's [challenges]'.
Happy together: The couple have been married for 18 years after first meeting on the set of Australian TV show Correlli in 1995
Love match: The pair are often seen out together and earlier this month were spotted at the US Open
Furness and Jackman are often photographed at events together and were last week spotted stepping out in New York with their two adopted children Oscar, 14, and Ava, nine.
Dressed in a black blouse and loose-fitting pair of three-quarter pants, the Legend Of The Guardians actress looked every inch the busy working mother as she juggled a backpack, handbag, children's jumper and camera as she made her way towards her husband who was waiting in a nearby car.
