Farewell, Halle and Famke! Fox will cast younger versions of mutant superheroes Storm, Phoenix, and Cyclops for X-Men: Apocalypse

By Cassie Carpenter for MailOnline

The next chapter of X-Men, called Apocalypse, takes place a decade after Days of Future Past.

And since it's set in 1983 - Halle Berry, Famke Jannsen, and James Marsden will likely not be reprising their mutant roles this time.

However, that does opens the door for fresh young talent to re-imagine the parts of Storm/Ororo Munroe, Phoenix/Jean Grey, and Cyclops/Scott Summers.

'If we included some of the original X-Men like Storm and Jean and Scott and others in Apocalypse, yeah, we would have to recast them because Apocalypse takes place a good 20 years before X1, which now insanely was 10 to 15 years ago,' Apocalypse screenwriter Simon Kinberg told Yahoo Movies on Wednesday.

'Halle, Famke, and Jimmy and others have done such wonderful jobs of bringing those characters to life. It would be a tall task.'

Kinberg continued: 'But I also would have said before First Class there would have been no way we find actors who could stand alongside Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart, but I think we managed to with Michael [Fassbender] and James [McAvoy], finding their own interpretations of the characters, not doing an impersonation.'
