"The Monitors"
Welcome to the home page of the 127th New York Infantry. Also known as The Monitors a Civil War Regiment raised in New York City and Long Island. Six companies A,B,C,D,F and E were recruited in New York City, and four companies E,H,I and K were recruited from Long Island. Company E was raised in Huntington and its vicinity, Company I from Babylon and Canarsie, Company H from Orient, Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue, and Mattituck, and Company K from Sag Harbor, East Hampton, Amagansett, Riverhead, and Bridgehampton. The regiment was in service from September 1862 through June 1865. This website is dedicated to preserving the history and memory of those who served in the 127th regiment.

I began my research on the 127th New York regiment over 15 years ago mostly on
foot visiting cemeteries and libraries searching out records on microfiche! I spent many
hours and quarters at the copy machine! Now many records are digitized and online
via the internet which does make researching easier but there is still an art to making
the connections and good old fashioned intuition and steadfastness. This website is
constantly evolving and will be updated as new information is discovered.
