A third would opt for a Victoria Sponge and 28 per cent said Lemon Drizzle was their favourite.
And although it missed out on the top 10, the banana cake was a hit in Aberdeen, while 70 per cent of those in Wolverhampton prefer a Cherry Bakewell.
The carrot cake was second favourite in Norwich and for one in three Christmas cake was one of the most loved in Brighton.
Claire Harrison-Church, category business unit director for Mr Kipling, said: 'Cake is one of the things the nation simply cannot live without, even if it just a little treat every now and then.'
