Democratic presidential aspirant lays out game plan for US

AN accomplished football player and coach seeking the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination sees Filipino-Americans as an integral part of the country's continuing growth and development.

“We are all Americans. We embrace one heritage and together we must seek a common bond,” said Robby Wells, a guest in the 26th Anniversary gala celebration of the Filipino-American Community of the Carolinas, Inc (FACC).

In an exclusive interview with Pinoy sa Carolinas recently, Wells expressed his admiration to Fil-Americans and Filipinos despite not having visited the Philippines yet.

Wells said he is courting the support of Fil-Americans, Asian Americans and the public at large for his presidential bid. Having lost a job and finding another, Wells said the country's economy has been hit and wanted to do something about it. Wells' game plan consists of repealing the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and all trade agreements that are not in the US's best interests.

“The manufacturing industry lost 4.5 million jobs in the past 15 years due to NAFTA. These jobs have gone overseas,” Wells said. Growing up in South Carolina, Wells said he was sad on learning that the manufacturing mills closed down.

He would also push for legislation to raise the tariffs on imports to make domestic businesses competitive with foreign goods.

“I believe in fair trade and I stand for an America that is energy independent that can drive the prices of gas Wells said Desert Storm, 9/11, the War in Afghanistan and the War in Iraq were all directly related to the US doing bad business with foreign nations to ensure their oil supply.

“Doing business with those identified with the war or harboring terrorists or supporting terrorists is bad business and the only way to stop this is to make this nation an energy independent nation,” Wells said.

As president, Wells said he would open up the Gulf for drilling, allow construction of the Keystone pipeline and overturn executive orders issued by former president Bill Clinton that protected over two million acres of land in Utah.

“This land is rich in all sorts of natural resource,” he said. Wells also said having a strong military means having US troops assigned in other countries return home.

He doesn't believe in building bases in other countries except probably in South Korea. Wells also believed in imposing tougher sanctions on illegal immigration, saying close to 20 million illegal immigrants are bleeding
