Introducing the world's funniest fashion models! Betabrand recruits female comedians for quirky new campaign

Proving that women can be both funny and fashionable, San Francisco-based clothing company Betabrand has cast 14 comediennes for its latest campaign.

Sarah Haskins, who co-created Trophy Wife; Carrie Kemper, a writer for The Office and Silicon Valley; and Tracey Wigfield, who writes for The Mindy Project, are just some of the female comedians who model the company's fall collection.

Betabrand, which crowdfunds clothing like the now famous zip-up, one-piece Suitsy, has also featured interviews with each model on the website.

'These days, women are ruling the comedy world,' said Betabrand founder, Chris Lindland.

Thanks to popular Betabrand products like Dress Pant Yoga Pants and Black Sheep Wrap Sweaters, women are now nearly half of the company's audience, he added.

Founded five years ago, Betabrand has never used 'professional' models to advertise its products - instead, it has chosen to feature friends, family, and community members.

'We want to [feature] genuine people feeling comfortable and feeling themselves in their clothing,' Betabrand content producer Liz Rossof told Elle.com.

The company also has a Model Citizen app that enables customers to upload photos of themselves wearing Betabrand clothes to get a discount on future purchases.

Ms Rossof says the company would like to rely exclusively on its customers as models in the future.

For it spring women's collection earlier this year, Betabrand used female PhDs to model its wares, and instead of doing the same thing with MDs, MBAs, or JDs, the company thought comedians 'would be more interesting'.

'To me, their intelligence is magic. And most have high-end academic backgrounds, so it's a fun chapter in the same story -- namely, we'd love to build a brand around brainy women,' said Mr Lindland.
