New DPKP party marks a 'turning point', will fill gap on the rightTuesday 19 June 2012

The new populist party launched by former PVV parliamentarian Hero Brinkman aims to fill the 'mega' gap on the right of Dutch politics, Brinkman said at the party's presentation to the media on Tuesday. The party has been named Het Democratisch Politiek Keerpunt (the democratic, political turning point) and is targeting five parliamentary seats in the September 12 general election. Brinkman has joined forces with Trots op Nederlands (proud of the Netherlands), the populist movement formed by former VVD parliamentarian Rita Verdonk, to create the DPKP. Verdonk quit TON last year. Explaining the party's name, Brinkman said he is a 'democrat in heart and soul'. Turning point refers to the fact society is at a turning point in terms of Europe, the euro, the political system, healthcare and education, Brinkman said. The new party wants to fill the 'mega' gap on the right wing, Brinkman said. This gap exists because the anti-immigration PVV is 'as left as the Socialists in terms of financial and economic policy,' Brinkman said. Brinkman left Geert Wilders' PVV in March, saying the party was undemocratic and divisive. The DPKP plans to present its plans for the election in several weeks time. Cutting the size of the government apparatus will be a primary goal, as will the creation of the 'neuro', a single currency for northern Europe. © DutchNews.nl

Somebody say something please, I need a good laugh By radio junkie | June 19, 2012 5:39 PM The name is badly chosen from a PR point of view: hard to pronounce and not catchy at all. I read it 4 or 5 times now and still the name does not stick to my memory. Furthermore: they can only use the name for a few years - what happens to the name after the current issues have been 'turned'? By Martin | June 20, 2012 12:42 AM First they embrace Wilders. Costs Holland business contracts and image. Wilders under the bus. Now this one has to divide Holland so that not another Fortuyn will arise asking for real democracy. No heroism, I would add. Why must everything be approved here? Another typical Dutch thing. By Abigail | June 20, 2012 10:20 AM The working class suffers the most from mass immigration and they are the ones voting PVV so it makes sense for the PVV to have left wing economic policies. If mass immigration, multiculturalism & political correctness continues though the middle classes will feel the effects soon too & are already starting too. I agree that we are a turning point & I also like the idea of a single currency for Northern Europe, this is what the Euro should have been in the first place then it wouldn't be such a disaster.
