Study shows America's most expensive city, and it's not NYC
New York City is often believed to be the most expensive city in the U.S., but a new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics says otherwise.
The report compares the average annual expenditures on housing and related items, like utilities, household furnishings, household supplies and other household expenses.
Two cities -- Washington, D.C. and San Francisco -- are more expensive than the Big Apple, according to the report.
California has three of the nation's top 10 most expensive cities, while Miami is the only representative from Florida listed in the report.
According to the findings, the average American family spends $16,887 on housing each year. That equates to 33 percent of the average household's annual expenditures.
