Fashion twins! How Taylor Swift and Amal Clooney have near-identical taste in clothes

One is a high-flying lawyer and the other is a pop princess. But when it comes to fashion, it seems that Amal Clooney and Taylor Swift could not be more alike.

On no less than eight occasions, the pair have sported almost identical outfits.

In some cases it has actually been the same dress - of course both women do share a fondness for Oscar de la Renta, so perhaps one or two matching looks was inevitable.

The most recent instance was yesterday, Entertainment Tonight observed, when the new Mrs Clooney, 36, arrived back in London from Greece wearing a black-and-white gingham dress from de la Renta's last season's spring/summer 2014 collection.

But keen-eyed followers of 24-year-old Taylor Swift's elegant style will know that's not the first time we've seen the dress. In fact, she was seen wearing it in May, leaving her gym in New York's SoHo. What really makes the likeness uncanny, though, is that they accessorized the same way with bright red bags, when a more obvious choice might have been black or brown.

Another post-gym appearance from Taylor, this time in June, saw her sport a red-and-white floral printed frock from the same label. Amal followed suit not long after, wearing the $890 dress in Florence, Italy in early September.

And their fashion - and styling - similarities don't end there. While their sleeveless, high-neck red dresses were not the same label, both chose to accessorize with a skinny belt.

They've also both been seen in mint green high-neck minidresses (teamed with sunglasses, heels and similarly-shaped handbags) and monochrome striped frocks. Another example shows both wearing vintage-inspired dresses with a yellow floral print by, yes, Oscar de la Renta again.

Dressing down for once? Grey-blue floral printed jeans and a white top with a taupe bag was the order of the day for both. And on the red carpet, both women favor deep red (Amal in Alexander McQueen and Taylor in Elie Saab.)

While, one hopes, the pair don't accidentally turn up to the same event in matching outfits, the comparison is at least a flattering one.

Both have been feted for their style, with Amal having been likened to the always-polished Duchess of Cambridge, and Taylor showing a sartorial maturity that belies her years.

And, while both share a willowy frame that makes nearly anything look good, their shared aesthetic is not that hard to emulate.

Amal and Taylor shy away from fashion trends and stick to classic investment pieces that will stand the test of time. This doesn't mean boring, though. In this instance, it translates into flattering, well-cut dresses that flatter those tiny waists.

Necklines are almost always high, and - in Amal's case at least - hemlines are usually midi rather than mini. And both avoid fashion's current penchant for normcore sneakers and flatforms, instead sticking to feminine peep-toes, pumps and T-bars.

There's plenty of fun to be had within those parameters though. Neither shies away from color - or print for that matter. Florals, gingham, stripes - anything goes, even on denim.

Dresses, though, are the foundation of Taylor's wardrobe, at least. She admits she owns hundreds.

'There's just something so feminine about a dress,' she told Harper's Bazaar last year. 'Whether it's a summertime dress that makes me feel carefree, an evening cocktail dress that makes me feel fancy, or a vintage dress that makes me feel like a '50s housewife - which I enjoy feeling like for some reason - I just really like dresses.'
