Canada is on full-scale terrorist alert after a gunman shot the Canadian soldier standing guard at the National War Memorial before multiple gunmen fired dozens of shots inside the halls of Parliament in Ottawa. Police have said there are 'two or three' gunmen inside the building and one of the gunmen has been killed. After Parliament was placed on lockdown, police swarmed downtown Ottawa as other shootings were reported at the Rideau Centre mall and the Chateau Laurier Hotel. Footage taken inside the Parliament building shows the terrifying moment shots were fired in the hallways. A spokesman for Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Harper was safe and had been evacuated from Parliament Hill. He will make a statement about the attacks later today.

NEW The bodies were found in Wedderburn - 216km north-west of Melbourne, Victoria. A man was arrested about midnight after a four-hour siege. Police were called to a Mulga Ridge Road address after reports of shots being fired. The man who is a suspect in the homicides was taken to Bendigo Police Station and is being questioned by police. The alleged gunman's wife is believed to have witnessed the shootings. 'It's a very tragic situation... this will impact a lot of people,' Superintendent Graham Kent said.

A GUNMAN is believed to have shot a soldier as he was standing guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa, Canada, this morning (Wednesday, October 22). It is believed police then chased the man into the main parliament building at Parliament Hill, where more shots were fired. Police are hunting the streets and buildings for further suspects and have asked the public to stay away from the area. There is also a report of shootings at the Rideau Centre mall in downtown, a short distance from the War Memorial. The wounded soldier was taken into an ambulance and treated by medical personnel and is condition is unclear. The incident comes after Canada raised its terror threat level from low to medium after a Muslim convert deliberately ran over two soldiers, killing one of them.

Researchers from University College London found that teenagers who smoked cannabis 50 times by the age of 15 show 'impaired' educational abilities and did worse in their GCSE exams.
