Social media storm: Chrissy Teigen, pictured last week, has landed herself in hot water after Twitter users accused her of making jokes about the shooting in Canada on Wednesday
'That's not a joke. It is a fact.'
While the Sports Illustrated star thought her comment drew attention to America's gun control debate, many on Twitter were outraged telling the model to 'stick to having your picture taken'.
However, the wife of John Legend refused to back down.
She wrote: 'Sorry you don't understand that is a knock at America and our issues with gun control. No one is minimizing the Ottawa shooting.

'I'm not apologizing. If you take it wrong, that is your fault.'
When users started to accuse Chrissy of being unfeeling, she explained that shootings like this have led to her losing faith in the world.
'I've lost faith in this world. Sorry if it comes off as being unemotional. There is just so much bad.'
Standing up for her right to make the comment, which she repetitively argued was not a joke, the cover girl then started to take on those who criticised her directly, retweeting their comments.

Summing up 90 percent of the negative comments she retweeted one Twitter user, Daniel Bennett's tweet: 'You should probably stick to having your picture taken for a living.'
When another wrote, 'The temperature where you are or your IQ, which one is higher?' she responded, 'What an original, complex insult'.
After three hours of near constant abuse, Chrissy admitted: 'It's been a while since I inadvertently pissed a ton of people off. Forgot how much it sucks.'

In the end, the star did backtrack slightly saying she did not mean to take the attention away from the Canadian tragedy and focus on America.
Responding to a supporter who said they appreciated her joke, the model wrote: 'Thank you but it honestly wasn't a joke. But I shouldn't have made it about us.'
Her comments came as downtown Ottawa remained on lockdown after the Parliament came under attack early Wednesday.
Police have yet to confirm if just one gunman was responsible for the shooting of a soldier who was standing guard at the Canada War Memorial.
Witness report the man was shot in the back and footage from the scene shows other soldiers preforming CPR on the injured man.
