The Theory of Englishness: Eddie Redmayne is preppy in a shirt, jumper and chinos with co-star Felicity Jones in New York

He plays the famous theoretical physicist who studied at Oxford and taught at Cambridge, and Eddie Redmayne certainly looked like he's walked off a college campus on Tuesday night.

The actor was attending a luncheon to celebrate his new film The Theory Of Everything and wore a preppy shirt and jumper combo with cream chinos.

Eddie, 32, was joined by his co-star Felicity Jones at the event held in New York.

Felicity, 31, had opted for a rather Seventies-inspired ensemble in a black roll-neck top and a red button-down midi skirt.

The two play the lead in the dramatic biopic that centres on the early academic life of Stephen Hawking as he navigates life, love and physics after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis while pursuing his Ph.D.at the University of Cambridge.

Based on the book by Hawking's first wife Jane, Travelling to Infinity: My Life with Stephen, it focuses on their love story until their marriage came to an end in 1995, after having three children together.

‘It’s her story, really,' Jones told Baz Bamigboye of the Daily Mail. 'It’s based on her book, about how she met Stephen, fell in love with him, and became wife, nurse, mother . . . and slave.

‘She played an important role, and continues to play a major role, in Stephen’s life. I wanted to do justice to her because I think some things were misunderstood about their relationship.'

Jones said she’d read all she could about Jane, including her university research and books.

‘I think some people thought that she just looked after Stephen and the children. But she has a powerful brain of her own, and she used it.

‘The idea that Jane was the little woman at home is wide of the mark,’ the actress said when I visited her dressing room in between shooting scenes with Redmayne and Charlie Cox, who plays Jane’s second husband.

Meanwhile, Eddie said that he worked with a dance choreographer in order to perfectly portray the deteriorating effects ALS had on Hawking.

'You’re not relaxed, everything is [twisted] and you’re sustaining these things and trying to activate these muscles here and control your breathing pattern and make sure your blinking is slower,' Redmayne told Yahoo Movies

'What ended up happening was that those scenes were the most physically exhausting scenes, the scenes where he can move the least.'
